Hi everyone, I'm fairly new to pole and have only been learning on my own via youtube and StudioVeena. I have focused mostly on strength and conditioning but have recently entered the exciting world of spins! I am having just one frusterating issue – I can't 'ride out' a spin, my hands just wont slide down the pole and if I loosen my grip I just let go! Does anyone have any tips or perhaps something I may be doing wrong(too tight of a grip?) Help! I just want to be able to perform a spin and then gracefully ride it out to the ground.

    -emm 🙂

Do you have your thumb up or around the pole? Thumb up might work!

Hmm pretty sure I wrap it around! I'll try that, never thought of that! Oh how I wish a studio was in my area 🙁 thanks for the tip!!

Two things, first try to get your butt away from the pole as much as you can….this will give you more momentum.  Second, practice a front facing pole hold, lift your knees and then slowly lower yourself to the ground (put a pillow down first so you do not crash).  This will help you control the amount of hold you have with your hands.

I was going to suggest the same thing chemmie, I call it a "pole hold slide".  It's a great excersise for working on that perfect "goldilocks" hand grip; not too tight, and not too loose. 🙂
