Please be careful with the twisted grip! It's very easy to hurt yourself. Take your time, don't overdo it in any one practice. Have you tried getting into the twisted grip aysha from an inverted crucifix? If you do that, you can try  to descend slowly. This will help you gain strength to go for a dead lift, as opposed to needing to kick at all. That kick for the handspring can be the cause of many rotator cuff issues. The jolt it puts on your joints and ligaments is quite strenuous. You can also try going for the lift by starting with your belly button facing the ceiling, tucking the legs to the chest as you rotate your hips up. At first I could do this but I needed to catch the pole with my feet (like going into butterfly) before I could go straight into the aysha. I hope any of that made sense, lol. Just TAKE YOUR TIME. You are in no rush! Better to keep from injurying yourself entirely than have to wait out a recovery! Good luck! 🙂

Push your shoulder down into the pole. Also face away from the pole! Your making it near impossible turning in.

This is one of my favorite moves. I am also working on it. Can do it….sometimes. Here's what works for me. 1) I kept trying, (as we are told) . I like to hold the pole in a twisted grip and using my leg in a kicking motion to help my body up. For months, I kept floundering. But kept at it.  2) One day my body just felt the push/pull between my arms…… and my hips moved higher in space and my legs opened up naturally into a "V" and It got it! 3) Here's what I have learned that works for me: I am pulling away from the pole with my upper arm while at the same time pushing into the pole with my lower arm.  This is a strong force of balance that needs to be right. 4) I also play around with different levels of how far I am leaning away from the pole as I kick my leg to start momentum. 5) For me, the key is finding the right balance between pulling away with my upper arm while pushing into the pole with my lower. 6) I also think if you just keep at at……eventually your body does what you want. 7) I also visualize moves I want to get. I belive in visualization. Lots of athletes do. Might sound silly to some….but it is not.
