Reverse Climbs
Posted by minicoopergrl on April 2, 2012 at 5:59 pmIs there any other reverse climbs besides the catapillar climb? I cant do it yet, but ive built up some good strength to start it. Id feel better with a spotter first.

I only did that move w/ a spotter for about a month. Work on one good push first and the strength will come soon:)

Hi, minicoopergrl. Have you tried working on the move from the floor? You may have already tried this, but it's how I teach my girls to build up the strength for catepillar. You invert, not into a chopper, but just grab the pole between the thighs and knees. Move your body around the pole until you are in a handstand position (not scorpio handstand, but regular handstand) and sink down the pole until your elbows are completely bent and your head is on the floor. Once you're in that position, push up with your arms until they are straight. It should look like you're sitting on an upside down chair, i.e. the pole is clenched between your knees and shins, and your butt is pushed up to the same level as your thighs.
Repeating this move can really get you comfortable with the push needed for catepillar!

I'm working toward this too. I find the snaking up is building the strength, but maybe try the work down the pole as well. I find this slightly easier ( you get to go down instead of up :)) and it helps with strength (still with the push up and out), but it looks pretty and can be done as a move to get you there. If you need to see it let me know and I'll upload a vid. Mine aren't the prettiest, but you can get the idea if you don't have it.

Is the spider climb ( gemini from side to side) considered a reverse climb? Cos there's that and also climbing from a shoulder mount.

How do you climb after you do the first shoulder mount (as in, how do you get your body into position to do the next SM)?

@HollySatine: You go from the sm into superman, then drop down a bit into a more figurehead-like position, then sm again. You can also go from a sm into a double knee hang, climb up over yourself, change into figurehead and sm again.
