    Hi everyone! I love poling..but ive done it sporadically, as ive had to move…putting it in a room with carpet really annoyed me because i like to dance barefoot…so i havent been insanely consistant or anthing but im totally ready to jump back in! Ive had a lot going on in my life and i just remember how good it felt to just dance. Everything is right in the world when im dancing. Ahh. Anyway..my question: i can do a lot of moves but sometimes…i guess where ive been inconsistant…i just dont feel as secure as i think i should. I have a static pole and every vid i watch..the impressive dancers are usually on a spinning one and so i try to analyze but i might as well be trying to learn chinese. It just ain’t happening! Haha would someone mind checking my mobile uploads photos of my scorpio and tell me what im doing wrong..i just dont feel secure. I get the basic concept..but i need to get over this awkward feeling when im upside down. Its driving me crazy! Thanks girls! Xo

    The Scorpio in your album looks good to me, especially in the second shot in the white shirt. If you don't feel secure in it, a few suggestions:

    – Wear a tank top or sports bra… I think scorpio can be a bit tricky in a t-shirt if you're not totally comfortable with it because there is underarm/back grip, not just leg and stomach. I relied heavily on that grip when I first learned leg hangs!

    – Let your body drop andand let it straighten out the leg like in the second shot…. it makes it look prettier and gives you a little more skin contact. I think of gemini as a leg hook and scorpio as more of a leg hang, if you get what I mean? Like, the leg shouldn't be as hooked in a scorpio as it is in a gemini.

    – If you can, try getting into it different ways (from a crucifix, a chopper/V, from gemini, from hip hold, etc).

    Also, if you're having problems gripping with your legs in general, make sure your pole is warm and your skin is not too dry.

    Thank you so much for responding! I wasn't sure if it was better to kind of extend the right leg (like the pic in the white shirt) or to close it a little…sometimes it's easier to hook it more for me! But I think it looks much prettier extended. I didn't really think about the shirt though. You may have a point there. I usually just roll up my tee shirt so that it doesn't rub my back when I'm doing certain spins. I will try a sports bra. I mean, I use those too, but I just hadn't really paid attention because I wasn't focused on the underarm/back grip. I'll try that! I am open to suggestions for sure!

    your scorpio looks really really good. You could also try…(after you hook the inside leg PULL you body up a little bit with your hands to really secure the pole low on the waste…right above the hip…THEN settle into the 'HANG"  you can place your inside hand on the pole for a little security..then release it when you secure) you wont get as great of an arm pit grip but it will really helps secure the pole in your waste..Eventually learn "both" ways..you will need the different versions for different transitions. If you watch a lot youtube videos..) Felix Cane does it…you will see them do that little adjustment on their leg hangs. (invert, grab pole with leg, slight pull up and release of hands into leg hang. Amercian pole dancers are not taught it as much..they are taught more "arm pit grip"

    PS..you need to know both, and if you are doing the arm pit grip amke sure you have skin and watch the deoderant..it can sometimes be slippery

    I also think your scorpio looks good already! One thing I personally do like is when the free leg is pulled downward (by gravity, not by a hand) because I think it gives the move a beautiful shape. How much it can be lowered depends on how mobile your hip flexors are, but muscles could always pull it down at least a little bit more!
