Hello! I have been poling for about a year, and I still struggle with some spins, mainly the ones that really engage the shoulder. The chair, carousel and variations of them. My shoulder hurts after doing only a few, and I dont feel they look good. I also have problems with one handed spins. Would be open to any suggestions! Thanks!

What is your conditioning regimen like? How are you building strength? What is your posture like? Do you have a video of your spins? Are you engaging your shoulders and keeping scapula neutral? Your body is giving you signals that something is not right, listen to it.

Im not shure what pain you are having, but some times its cuz the membrane around the bones are irritated and that can cause inflamation- but this is in most cases happening to the lover arm when doing a full bracet grip…

But i have never heard my students having them kind a problems with shoulders.. It could be your shoulders are not strong enough. So doing more spins will help on the muscles, but narrow push ups, and/ore handstand will work you shoulders as well, if you want to train them in other ways than with the pole.

^^ Hope you find a way that will help you! (and sorry for my shitty english)

Lately my only conditioning has been what I get in class, the actual poling itself, and a yoga pilates class designed with poling in mind. I dont feel I ever properly learned how to spin and use my muscles effectively without just hanging  off my shoulder. My posture could use improving. I have good upper body and core strength, I am very effective at inverting, and spins using a baseball grip. So its just the spins that engage the shoulder that I struggle with.

I have several lessons for conditioning the shoulders! These are important to work on before learning to spin!
