I went a bit mad on alethea austin’s DVD last sat. Now my left leg is so tight, despite it being over a week! Should I continue to do gentle stretches on that leg or leave it a few weeks? Also, what are people’s views on dynamic stretches? Not sure if that’s what went wrong as pretty flexible already. Maybe I should have done normal stretching for a few week first to have got back into stretching!

If you pulled a muscle, let it rest for about 1-2 weeks, then start GENTLE stretching exercises to help rehabilitate it. Continue that for a few weeks. Once the pain is almost gone, then you can stry doing strength exercises.

Ouch! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif I hope you're feeling a bit better now.

I would suggest staying away from dynamic stretches if you've been away from flexibility training for a while, or are new to flexibility training. These need to be done carefully with correct form.

To help relive the strain, try heat and massage, returning to light stretches once you feel a bit better in a few days. Heating pads, hot tubs, hot baths are all good heat options, a foam roller is a great tool for both sore and strained muscles. Feel better soon.

Thanks guys and sorry for the delayed thanks – we had sun for once in Manchester!!

I think I'm getting back to some flexibility there. It was just so weird – not sore, but just really tight. I started reading things about scar tissue never stretching properly and panicking and wondering whether to streth at all. The powerplate massage at my gym helped and I can hopefully now go to a flexibility and contortion workshop in a couple of weeks no worse off than I was before!!

how do you incorporate dynamic stretches into your flexibility training? im a bit wary as i think ther y similar to ballsitic stretches which ive heard are harmful. so not sure why AA has them in her dvds?
