  • Mighty grip socks rip after 3 uses?

Given that I pole anywhere between 3-5 times a week (and also am employeed as a dancer) I decided to try mighty grips socks to see if it would help prevent bruising on my dominant climbing foot. I noticed yesterday at practice that the top vinyl tack had ripped after only 3 uses? It’s been much longer than a month, so I don’t think returning them is feesable. But is that normal? My instructor wears socks on both of her feet and has had them for a while, no rips. Is she the lucky one, or am I the unlucky one?

I'm afraid I can't comment on the socks, but I will say that I've protected my foot for a few long sessions with tape. Bondage tape works great. Just a wrap around the arch of the foot seems to do the job great for me.

someone else suggested tape, but it looks like it takes forever to get on/off

I would also revisit how you are climbing.  It is one thing to rip your foot open on a sticky pole but if you are relying a great deal on the top of your foot for grip you need to rethink how you are gripping.  You should have 3 points of contact, not just the one.

And the though of PDR and bondage tape just gave me the warm fuzzies……

It’s just the top of my foot that bruises. My instructor after 4 years of pole still gets bruised there as well. The rip is on the top tack, mid shin, where I rarely have contact.

One more thing, we do have a heavy duty anklet with tack strips that has been designed and is worn by Zoraya Judd. They are a bit more expensive but they do stand up to more vigerous and longer work outs.
