cheap pole fails
Posted by Dancing Paws on July 9, 2012 at 11:20 amCame across this video. I only see two x poles and 1 ps pole coming down (still intact), but this video is a good example of how dangerous the cheap poles are. They are literally breaking!!

That was actually funny, but I worry about my cheap pole all the time so I am constanly checking the bolts. My hubby has it screwed right into a stud in the ceiling. I wish I would have paid more for my pole but now I have to wait until I can afford to upgrade. When I first got it I thought it would be fine but then I progressed quickly through class and decided some moves will only be performed in class until I get a quality pole. Now I know that it is a peice of junk but it will work for light practice on days I am not in the studio.

Yeah, just be safe. You should periodically check craigslist. Peple sell their quality poles all the time for cheaper than buying them new.

The Electra Poles I did not think were too bad if you had them screwed in the top and bottom. They should just never be used as tension poles. I have been on home made poles that are one piece pipe fitted into a flange that is bolted in and have never had an issue. You can make a decent pole from stainless exhaust pipe for under $150….I have seen it done at many bars. Most of the issues are from multipiece poles that have plastic parts or from poles that have cheap tension mounts. This is what you need to be aware of.

I have the Electra pole thanks for letting me know I will just keep checking to make sure it is tight and put money away for a better pole.

I am sorry, I got the Electra Pole confused with the Flirty Girl pole. It appears that the Electra is just a rebranded PeekaBoo pole.

Filrty girl looks semi okay. It has the same ceiling mount as a LM.
-
No big deal I still intend to be really carful with it and keep the serouis pole moves in the studio until I can get a better quality pole.

All of these cheap poles usually are ok as far as not falling down. The issue will be that the joints begin to flare out and can cut you!!!!

I have the xpole- xsport and I have never had a problem with it. I do want to get a ceiling mount for it eventually but I haven't had any problems with using the ceiling plate. The only concern I have it when my 'larger' girlfriends use it. I do notice a little bit of a bowing when doing spins like the backswing. But it hasn't caused an issue and it always straightens back out immediantly. I would just feel more comfortable with the ceiling mount when my bigger friends use it just as a precaution to keep the top from possibly slipping.

I have a Flirty Girl pole, the pole itself is ok but I had my dad convert it to a permanent spin pole because it kept wearing a hole in my ceiling when I tightened it when it was installed like it is originally supposed to be. I am going to make it into an outdoor pole now that I have an Xpole.

Believe it or not I have one of those pink dance poles lol. My boyfriend set it up and its pretty sturdy, but its srewed into the ceiling in like 4 places. He’s pretty muscular and is not a twig and has hopped on it a time or two. Id really love an x pole xpert 50 mm but if this can stay sturdy for a bit longer then I may as well get my moneys worth.

I have a pink dance pole too… its not a "partypole" but a similar type. I have tile floor and bought a toilet flange that fit the base and had my boyfriend drill into the tile, and another brace on top with extra bolts around the actual base which has bolts too. its loud, and doesn't spin however i'm never afraid it's going to come down, and the grip is awesome (:

Veena, I just read what you wrote!!! My first pole did that, and I called the store I bought it from and they replaced it for free, and the second one did the exact same thing. it sucks!!!!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_evil.gif unfortunatly i've gotten used to avoiding that spot. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif
I'm very close to have saved for my tg 45mm xpert https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

my first pole was a carmen electra and yes it was a peice of junk. it was actually given to me because the original owner upgraded to an xpole. anyway- i was able to learn pole climb, pole sit, wrist sit, knee hold, and pencil on this pole without any tragedies. I could not spin, nor did i do any tricks that would possibly shift the pole, like chopper or shoulder mount.
however– I would not recommend a cheap pole if you are serious about pole dance. I'm just saying that if you did get a cheapy, you can still enjoy a good workout.

WOW some of those video clips were actually kind of frightening haha that's my biggest pole fear, is that my pole will come crashing down and break something (or break me!)
