Hi, I started pole dancing a little over a year ago but still consider myself a beginner because I just bought my first pole at home. I used to regularly take classes at a studio but have recently moved and want to train at home. I plan on visiting a studio every once in a while but I know a lot can be done at home. I don't know the first thing about teaching myself how to pole. I've always had an instructor with me. Does anyone have any advice on how I could accomplish this goal? I don't even know where to begin. I had the 3 day trial on this site and thought it was really cool. I'm thinking about purchasing a membership. Does anyone have any additional resources?

Never been to a studio, not sure how i would fit in a class anyway. I only had Veena's lessons and so far i'm really happy with it. After 2 years and being pretty adavanced i feel confortable to figure some moves by myself.

One thing for sure, you can't go wrong with the lessons here. Hope the others girls have tips for you 🙂

Veena’s lessons are great. Definitely get them. For pics, check out wikipole.org. They got hacked so the pix aren’t up right now, but hopefully it will be soon. For videos of moves, check out poledancecommunity.com. Go to the syllabus for videos of moves by level. Poledancedictionary.com also has vids of moves.

I started out learning from a studio, then moved like you. For the last 2 years I have learned through this site and the resources I posted. I am only just now getting back into classes.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much, this is really helpful! The only other resource I've used was poledancedictionary.com but Veena's videos are definitely more helpful. PoleandAerial.com just launched and that was my other option but since they're so new they don't seem to have as big of a community as Veena does. Veena's is also much cheaper. If I were to spend my money for an online resource do you think Veena's the way to go? I'm glad to hear that people are happy with on this site. Also, any other free pole resources out there? Thanks everyone!

Oh my goodness, the syllabus from PDC is amazing! This was just what I was looking for! Are there also any training programs out there?

    Hi ADR1ENNE,https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

You may find some more photos if you do a google search. We also have a pole move gallery with links to the lesson for each particular move.

I have a few free lessons on Youtube, but with YT nothing is in order so it's hard to know what to work on, if your looking for something with structure, stay with the lessons here.

We have amazingly helpful members and as you've seen with the trial the lessons are all placed in order for you and I'm available to answer lesson questions you may have. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Thanks for your advice! I am really happy with the structure on your site and look forward to buying lessons! I'm also impressed with how big the forum is and everyone's participation. I got an advertisement of StudioVeena when I ordered my xpole, glad I came across you guys. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Aside from following your online lessons in order you should practice dancing and putting everything together.  There are some routines in the lessons so you can practice those and then start putting your style on them and then eventually start freestyling.

Make sure you have lots of water, do a warm up and take lots of videos so you can chart your progress 🙂

I will be 100% home taught and wanted to know if the Jamilla Deville art of pole box set and a membership to Veena would help me. Always wanted to learn never had time for studio lessons so ordered my x stage lit 45 chrome, the art if pole DVD set and Alethea Austin pure splits and stretches set should be here Friday. Will those things and membership for lessons on here be enough for me to learn?

@tigerlillies–most definitely. Jamilla is excellent too. And I encourage everyone to visit a pole studio if possible (when traveling, and keep your eyes open to see if one opens near you and check it out etc)…even if you're solidly an 'at home' poler. The perfect world is access to both. I was an at home poler for years, but now I have a studio to call home too, and I am so grateful.

I've met women at the studio that are talented, amazing, passionate about what I am passionate about too, that I NEVER would have met otherwise. That alone is incredible. I appreciate all our students, because without them there would be no studio for us to gather and learn and grow in. So what I'm saying is..if you ever have access to a local studio, you are so lucky, please support it! 😀

Is there really a 3 day trial for the StudioVeena lessons? That would be pretty awesome, how did you set it up? Tia 🙂

@adAstra:  You get three days free trial when you first sign up on the forum.  I think you have to go to lessons then sign up from there, I can't remember.

@ Adr1enne:  I'm kind of in the same boat as you.  I finished up to level 3 in a studio recently but decided to take a break to practise and build strength before progresssing…but oh no, how will I know how to train on my own?  So!  I ended up purchasing the gold membership from here and don't regret it one bit.  There are a lot of positive reviews on Veena's lessons so I think you'll definitely benefit and enjoy them.  There is a pole app called "Pocket Pole" but they only have videos of the move, you don't get the muscle groups used, points of contacts and such that you see here.  Plus, you have to buy the app to see all the moves…the light version has only some moves.

I believe this is the link for the trial but I'm not sure if it could be used for people already signed up. Worth a try.

@suigintou: thanks for the advice! I feel the same way about building strength and flexibility off pole to help me on the pole. I learned a couple of advanced moves while at a studio but have definitely neglected some basic beginner and intermediate moves. Sometimes I feel like I'm working backwards but the lessons on this site really looks like it could help me fill my gap. Thanks and good luck on your training!

I think that for a beginner it's better to start with Veena lessons, because they are well structured and will take you step by step to more advanced levels. Personally, I learned also from Jamilla Deville DVD (they could be of some help), then I learned with Veena (her lessons helped me a lot) and now I've subscribed for Poleandaerial online lessons. I like their site, even if it is pretty new, because it contains many new moves and variations of the old moves that was interesting for me (even with my 4 years experience in Pole Dance!). I love especially Marlo Fiscen and Jenyne lessons. The disadvantage of this site is that you can find many moves of intermediate or advanced level in the beginner level or vice versa (I'd prefer the Veena division of levels!) and the сollection of the lessons are incomplete (sometimes instructor advice you to revise some lesson that you can't find in this site).

@Felissita Thanks for your advice! I was looking for a comparison between poleandaerial and Veena. I think I'm going to stick with Veena for some time and keep my eye on poleandaerial. Maybe after a year or so they'll have everything up to date and a bigger community. Thanks!
