    ok buying a flexibility dvd but cant decide between felix or alethea. has anyone tried both?? or one or the other? ive not heard much on felix cane’s dvds. for those that have both, whos do u like better?

    I have Felix'.  I only went through the first 2 so here are my 2 cents.  It is not as instructional as Veena's lessons.  The moves are not broken down in as much details, and there are few 'take note' remarks.  I find myself going back and going back to see what just transpired.

    thank u! i have read another review that says hers are a little hard to follow. so ill prob go with alethea, thnx again 🙂

    While i have all of both of their dvds, I havent watched all of Felix's pole dvds. I have done her flexibility dvd though. I like that her flexibiltiy dvd does not utilize the pole, just a mat and yoga blocks, mostly because when I bought all these dvds, I did not have a pole up at home.  Personally, I like Felix's flexibility dvds better than Alethea's. While I like Alethea's a lot, the production is not as good, and I like the content of Felix's better.

    corby, does alethea use the pole alot for her pure splits and stretching for pole? the less with the pole the better because my flexibility training will b inside where my tv is, my stage is in the garage, thanks!!

    Alethea does utilize the pole for her stretching DVDs, both for pure splits and stretching for pole. However, for the stretching for the pure splits DVD its pretty easy to substitute a wall or doorway for the pole, and the ballerina stretch is the only one that actually requires a pole, I think. I haven't tried it specifically, but I would think you could totally work on that twisting position with a broom stick to some degree. It's slightly more difficult to substitute for the pole in the Stretching for Pole DVD, but its also possible, will likely need a doorway for grip. So if you have some wall space and a doorway handy, I would think that you don't need your pole. Using the pole is probably easier, but not necessary.  And for her standing splits on the pole, I don't like using the pole anyway, because its more difficult to set up with your hips square, since having your bottom foot on the floor in front of the pole and your extended leg up on the pole puts both of your feet in a straight line, pulling your hips open, if that makes any sense.  Its one of the reasons that I appreciate how Felix tends to explain mechanics more. Technique in stretching is just as important as technique in dancing… without it, you are either setting up for injury, or just not being efficient.

    I was wondering something similar to that. Felix DVDs or Jamillas DVDs. I Like Althea’s but for me the floor work and sexy fundamentals are hard to fallow. The ankle swirls are so hard for me to do. But for more pole work I was wondering if any body had a preference ?

    For pole moves, jamilla all the way! She is awesome at breaking things down.

    Thanks so much lol I was thinking of her but was trying to fight it and go for Felix maybe after Jamillas DVDs I’ll be ready for Felix

    @ Ive8899 I agree with Smokinangel, I love the way Jamilla explains all the moves,  I've also got Felix's and they are good, prettily shot etc, but there is not quite as much explanation as Jamillia's, Tthe moves are repeated 3 times and its much more of a " watch and do" but I have learnt alot from these too.  Maybe get Jamillia's and then get Felix advanced dvd to follow on when you've wor4ked through Jaimillia's..

    I'm still saving up for Felix's DVDs (at least the advanced), but I highly second the recommendation for Jamilla's Art of Pole series.  The production is great, and she breaks moves down so that they're very easy to follow.  I purchased them about a month after starting pole lessons at a studio, and they helped my progression tremendously.

    I have alethia’s. There are some great stretches on her dvd’s. The music is not my taste, so I turn down the sound and then can’t hear the instruction. Some shots make it hard to see her alignment or foot placement. Other areas of the DVD do not match up cueing with what’s actually happening. So I get confused on that section. Am I supposed to do what she says or what I see her do? The section I’m referring to is the floor split stretch/relax section. She has a few section where she does ballistic kicking. From everything I’ve researched, ballistic is not advisable. I’m also ACE certified and they teach you to not use that type of stretch when teaching. I honestly don’t understand why she includes it. When you kick into a stretch it causes a reaction in your muscle that actually contracts the muscle. Then you kick again quickly and repeatedly on a contracted muscle and go beyond your natural range of motion. It’s considered a very risky form of flexibility training and may cause injury. I do know however that some elite athletes will use it as will martial artists, so i don’t know… I support Alethia, and think she’s so awesome, but I would hate for anyone to get hurt doing these kicks. One last thing, there is another stretch where you place your hand just above your knee and pull upwards on your lower leg. This hyperextends the knee joint. It’s very bad for the knee and I’d skip that piece if you do get the DVD. All in all I’d say go ahead and get it, just be gentle with yourself and if something causes pain, stop that particular exercise. Stretching shouldn’t hurt. As an aside, I will say that I do like the resistance stretching DVD with Dara Torres. She’s an Olympic athlete and she credits her success with this type of stretching. Yoga is also great for flexibility. The are some wonderful DVDs with hip openers and splits stretches (Hanumanasana).

    thank u angel, i am leaning towards felix or the brothers that azblanco told me about, would love love veenas lessons but cant do the 100, 30 is what i can afford right now.
