Teddy on Spinny
Posted by megan12 on August 29, 2012 at 5:43 pmSo I’ve been able to do a Teddy for some time now. I’ve been trying it on spinny but it seems like I always slide, no matter what I try. I really prefer to dance on spinning mode and it’s frustrating to me that I can’t do this hold. Any tips or tricks?

I can make a video but I just do it from the floor. I lift my right leg up and grasp my thigh. Then have my left hand on the pole as I lift my right leg. I take my hand off and put it on my thigh. I just feel like the rotation of the pole makes my armpit grip really unstable.

Try it from a side climb. First on static. I find that being "up" and then letting myself "down" into the arm position helps me hang on better. Be warned, though. It may hurt more than it does from the floor! If you can't do a side climb, then do a regular climb and swing your legs in front of the pole as if you are going to do a Figurehead, but do a Teddy instead. Or, you could always do the figurehead first then the Teddy for a combo…

Well, that's kind of my issue. I can do it both from the floor and aerially on a static pole with absolutely no problems. But as soon as I try it with a spinning pole, the spin seems to dislodge my armpit grip and makes me slide down. 🙁

It's difficult for me on spin as well unless I do a figure-head first. It seems to help me get my grip a little better & (so long as I don't grasp the pole again & just go into the teddy from there) I don't slide nearly as much…

Funny MK, as soon as I saw this question, I wondered if it was from you. Sure enough!!! Had a great time today. 🙂

Can you try it while still hanging on with one arm first to get the feel for the spin mode? Also, not sure if you are going into a full-on straddle or just bending one leg, but that would be my next suggestion. You could even try it in just a tuck position first so your thighs can touch the pole and help with grip?

Have you tried it while spinning both directions? As in both clockwise and anti clockwise while using the same arm?
