Invert tips-tilting back
Posted by IchigoMewMew on September 5, 2012 at 8:43 amHi ladies I know there are loads of topics about inverts but I wondered if anyone had advice about how to tilt back, I just can’t do it! I can get into an invert very badly if I swing up and grab the pole with my feet then sort of climb…… I just can’t work out how to pull down and tilt back they seem like two completely opposite actions. I can hold myself for quite a long time in a tuck but something is stopping me from going ny further its really frustrating and my instructor doesn’t know what else she can do to help. Sorry if that’s a bit long

Search the threads, u will read a lot of advice. It is hard and basically takes a ton of practice. Many of us couldn’t invert for months! Not that it is to be a discouragement, but just true. Keep it up, u will get it! 🙂

Are you watching your feet/the pole? If so, STOP. You can't tilt back if your head is up–you need to look for the wall behind you. Pull down on the pole, let your head drop back, and get your hips close to the pole.
Lyme Lyte's right that there's a LOT of advice on various threads and videos here. Good luck! It's not as easy as the pros make it look! 🙂

Are your arms bent when you are in your tuck? If they are not then there is no way you can lean back as your arms have no extension.

Yeah my arms are bent, I think I probably need to put my head back further than I think I do, will give it a good go in class next week thanks 🙂

U can also post a short video….u will get tons of personal pointers as well.

That’s a good idea, I dont have any videos of myself, just the odd photo from a few months ago

It took my a while to get the tip back. I think they key was really just strength. I could get a partial tilt for quite some time, but didn't get it fully until my middle back, abs, lats and biceps got even stronger.

I’m in the same boat with trying to figure out the tilt back and how to get into the knee hang. I can do the invert by catching it at my calf and pulling my legs up, but from their I can’t figure out what to next. I may post a blog and a vid too for tips. If you find out more info and post a bid please let me know so Ivan learn from you. I’ll do the same too.

I never did the tuck n tilt. I just automatically started inverting with my legs straight. It's hard to explain, so I made a video and put it on youtube. I hope it helps?

My delete button seems to have disappeared. What I meant is, the difference between the way that I invert and the way many other polers invert is I straighten my legs BEFORE I tilt back, but still sitting up. And that's what works for me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrQ0RaBNxc8&feature=related <– when she puts it into slow motion, you'll see what I mean. She keeps her knees bent from tuck, to tilt, to inverted V. I just go tuck –> straighten legs –> LEAN back instead of forcing my hips "up" because gravity works with me easier when my body isn't in a little ball. But I have long legs, so that might be why 😛
