Does anyone else feel like their abs are inhibiting their progress in a backbend rather than their back mobility? My abs are soooo friggin tight!

My abs stretch when I do backbends but its my spine that gets in the way. I'll be doing bridges and my abs will stretch and then my spine's like "haha no".

I'm pretty sure my back could go farther than I am going now if it weren't for my tight abs.

I have to admit I kinda cracked up when Persian said "it's my spine" that gets in the way because I just started thinking of Repoman yanking out that guy's spine and went "oh hey! that would make things WAY easier! Yeah… don't need that anyhow….."

But anyhow my abs don't usually stop me- I too just have an issue bending my spine that much and I could probably be more stretchy if it wasn't for my spine.

Yes, the abs can be hindering you in the back bends, you have to stretch them like everything else. A low cobra pose with focus on the abs is great, do it after each pole session and workout that works the abs.

Ugh. Mine is my shoulders! Since doing pole, I think I have gained a lot more strength but at the expense of my flexibility. Backbends used to be no problem. Splits a breeze. Not right now tho!  I am going to double down on flexibility! Shoulders can definitely limit your back flexibility as well as the abs, I think.
