Thick Pole!!!
Hello,
I have a gig (polesque) coming up at new venue with a two story high "firemen's pole" I've recently been informed that it is 2.5 inches thick in diameter. Holy Crap!! I'm worried about my grip and abilty to Strip tease gracefully so high up and trusting my grip. I'm an intermediate to advanced pole dancer and used 50mm. Anyone have some thoughts, reactions, advice?

It's incredibly hard to do anything split grip or anything upisidedown. It takes a while to adjust. I had to work two weeks at Christie's before I could even climb the pole. Depending on how long you've been pole dancing, you might be able to adapt more quickly. It's very difficult for me to do inverted V or anything where only my hands are holding. Shoulder Mount was impossible. Knee Holds, CKR, CAR, leg hangs, jade are all very comfortable, surprisingly. Also, flag seems a lot easier. I recommend trying the pole before you plan a routine. They're not impossible to work with, but it's like trying to pole off of a tree.

That thickness is going to suck. I have no doubts that you will be able to perform some of your stuff but you will lose a lot of your grip. Will they allow you to practice at all on the larger pole? That would be my best suggestion. I have poled on a painted galvanized fence pole before and it is not fun but I think that was 2.23, not a full 2.5. Do you know the material?
I might stick to more of your burlesque-y stuff and throw only a few things on the pole in, unless you can get there and practice and see what you can and cannot do. Or have 2 versions of your routine planned.
