I was reading a book about the process of what motivates people. The idea was personal self improvement and willing desire vs. profitable gain. Both are important on different levels, but self motivated goals always led to better results.

To make this short, it seemed like smaller goals always led to more improvised sparks of creativity. Big picture goals, like "I'm going to own a company some day", as compared to "I'm going to learn my lower management trade and enjoy what I do".

So I'm going to challenge myself to do better than what I've been doing. Not because it's going to put more money in my pocket, but because I LOVE what I'm doing. It's a struggle to get motivated sometimes and it might not seem like I improve at all, but the small things do add up.

It would be cool to work on this with other people or a group. My small goal is help others when they ask for it, and work on my push ups.

    Interesting

Right now I am struggling a bit with my motivation because I broke my pole progress momentum by going overseas & had no pole for an extended time. It seems progress is my motivation and because I have to relearn a few things and work to get back to where I left off I find myself procrastinating to practise. In general as soon as I start getting better at something I start getting really motivated and more disciplined at keeping up with it. It's inertia I guess: A body in motion stays in motion a body at rest stays at rest.

Sorry I'm kind of going off on a tangent, can you give the name of the book?

You know, I read an artical about this sort of thing the other day:

I'm not sure how much of it is true/false/half of both the information is, but I found it interesting and thought it tied into the conversation really well. And also, I'd love to participate 😀

My small goal is actually to help myself before I help others (I'm kinda a doormat) and I guess I'll make a fitness goal too….I'll work up my pull-ups :3

I think it has something to do with seeing the big picture of what a person's goals are. It's easy to think of the end result, but even harder to put in the work, time, energy, and pain. There are so many in between steps that need to happen.

The name of the book is Drive by Daniel H. Pink, it goes through two processes of motivation that has been studied in the workplace. It says there are two different types of motivation. Motivation by bribes and personal desire, where people in charge aren't telling someone to do something for a payoff.

I actually had that problem of helping others before myself. Still do in some aspects of my life. It's usually harder to help someone if you can't help yourself first. It's all good, but you have to find a good balance that fits in with everything. That's a good goal to set and can transition into many other aspects of your life as well!
