2012 November Challenge
Posted by Veena on November 3, 2012 at 11:08 amThis months challenge will be…..Opposites! By that I mean, we'll be doing all spins, tricks floorwork, you get the idea, on your non dominate or weaker side. The side you do not normally use. You may surprise yourself and find you can do something better than you thought on a side you tend to neglect. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

great idea! I so need this challenge, my non-dominant side has been neglected for a while. 🙂

What should I do with being ambidextrous? I do everything on both sides (I'm not being a big head here, it's just something I do when I pole) so what can I do? Should I just film myself doing each spin/trick on each side anyway?
-
Do a video showing moves on both sides. Or do a video showing you learning a new move on both sides!
I’ve taken so much time off I think I might do one of me re-learning moves on both sides. Everything feels a little weird so maybe I should take advantage of it and balance myself out on the list of moves I could only do one-sided. 🙂

oh man my off sides r so bad, this will b quite a challenge.
-
This should be fun as I don’t have a sub side – it differs move by move BUT this challenge will help me work on my transitions to gracefully change directions on the pole. Plus my OH just put down laminate flooring in my pole room so I should be able to do better floor work.
I may also do a late October challenge (if I can get my butt in gear).

This is a great idea veena. Is it true that working tricks on just one side can make the spine crooked?

Hmmm this is TRULY gonna be a challenge cosidering Im such a die-hard right-siderhttps://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

This will be my feb challenge…when I get the internet I plan on getting Veenas lessons and starting right from scratch on my non dominant side. I have mastered the chopper so far and an aerial invert on my non dom but cant do the basics, how bizzare?
-
That’s the same as me.I have sumthings I can do on both n then other thing only on one side. I try when learning a move to try it on both sides incase one sides better.I can air invert on weaker side but not normal invert I can’t do. But I always struggled with normal invert iget lazy so I do air most of the time ne way xxx

I am not very good on either side so this should be funny! 🙂

Fitchix, I feel ya, I don't have a dominate side either. I work both sides too, this is something I feel is important and stress to those who take the lessons here. Maybe just make a vid doing the moves you do on both sides. I know for me there are a few moves that I am not as comfortable with on one side, so maybe you have a move that you have yet to nail you could post?
Also keep in mind, you don't have to do every challenge, maybe try one of the others you haven't done yet this month instead? You can do any challenge at anytime. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

I am embarassed to even try this, but I must. I hate to say I am one sided. I am. At a Pantera workshop the other day, she asked us to try on out other side and I nearly fell. It just would not click. I do not know why I am so one sided. It is almost like it is impossible on my other side. I call it my wrong side even!!! LOL! This IS A CHALLENGE!!!!!! It will not be pretty.

I'm not nearly as balanced as I would like to be – can't wait to see what I can or rather can't do!

I too took Pantera’s workshop and found I could shoulder mount (owwww!), marley (again, ouchies!), and elbow grip aysha on my ‘bad’ side. I have decent bad side spins, invert, outside leg hang, and inside leg hang, but that was it. My poor left shoulder is so tender, it’s like learning shoulder mount all over again! (And… Oowwwwch! LoL)
