I'm new around here. I decided to participate in the discussion because of the question posed by a classmate on personal trainer certifications. I would like to know where I can get certified but specifically in pole dance. I know this involves traveling, but I'm willing to plan for it. Orientation would greatly appreciate because here in the Dominican Republic there is no school certifying official.

What specifically are you wanting to do with pole dance and what is your background?  Most certifying bodies expect that you alredy have some sort of pole background so that you do not have to learn the moves on top of being certified.

Ones that stick out in my mind are:

Empowerment Through Exotic Dance in Chicago

    Angel Discoveries in Baltimore

    XPole XPert (various locations)

I know there are a few online programs but I am not sure how great the instruction is.  The three I mention above probably get the higest ratings out of any of the programs around.

On top of a pole certification many suggest also getting a group fitness certification.

Depends on where you live! I know that up here in Canada, we have very little geared specifically toward Pole (not that I've seen, anyways) but you can take Fitness trainer's certification, and specifically in Group fitness, thus certifying you to be able to teach classes and such. It also all comes with an amount of insurance, though you have to keep up with your training as well.

I imagine that the UK and other countries would also have dfferent things available!

I have only one year taking pole dance classes. I can handle moves like flag, advanced plank, bow & arrow, aerial shouldermount, cupid …Now I'm working on the hadnspring, cartwheel, the splits …
I would help my instructor to teach the newer girls but I like to have a certificate proving I have been evaluated and approved by a competent authority. I asked her but did not say anything concrete or probably do not know.

Sorry if there are mistakes in my writing. Here in RD we speak spanish.

    Thanks for have answered. Hugs

She probably means a fitness certificate, not necessarily a pole certificate.  In oreder to teach in some areas you have to have a certified competancy of body physiology and also first aid/CPR training.
