Winter Lack of Motivation
Posted by byrdgrrl on December 6, 2012 at 12:24 amSo now that it's cold out and gets dark so quick, I'm finding it reallly hard to get motivated to do any working out. I try to do a little yoga every day during the weekend, but that's not going to keep me in shape. If people wouldn't mind sharing what helps you slay the cold demons, I would be appreciative.
Mostly I think that I just need someone to tell me to sack up and stop whining. XD

I always crank the heat before I work out. It helps because if it is cold, I will not even want to pole. I light candles to help too. I use to help with grip on a cold pole and in 10 minutes I am hot and turning the heat back down. It works!! I also schedule skype sessions with ladies from here.

Do you pole at home? My pole is in my basement and it gets pretty cold down there, so in the winter I like to turn on the space heater for a while before I go down there, layer up my clothes until I feel cozy (sports bra and pole shorts, a tank top and legwarmers, then a warm hoodie and sweatpants and slippers or boots) and then dance around and do basic floorwork and things like headstands until I feel warm. The worst part is your skin touching the cold metal lol so I like to use the pole a lot in my warm up when it's chilly… think spins with lots of body contact like the side spin, front/back hooks, fireman, etc 🙂 Then you can slowly strip away layer by layer as you feel warmer.
If it's just working out in general, the worst part is getting the courage to leave the warm house, lol 🙁 I struggle with that too…

It's mostly just the initial motivation to get off the chair. Layering is good. It seems like that's half my winter workout: taking off and putting on clothes. I find it hard to stretch enough when it's cold. Like it's hard to get and stay warm enough to stretch with out hurting something.

i am feeling the winter blues too! so, for tonight, i’m parked in front of the tv, doing jumping jacks, burpees and squats- then stretching. better than doin nothin… which is what i’ve done all day so far.
now! go workout!! 😀 -
I had a pretty good workout today. Of course, it was also over 60 degrees F and sunny out today. I’m hoping I’ve figured out a new way to work on my handstands.

Im moving to the snow soon i hope i font get unmotivated! In australia winter is the best season for pole dancing.. Right now in aus its getting to like 35 – 40 degrees.. My pole feels instantly slippery after a few spins 🙁

Ohhh I hate winter I need to move to oz 😀 I haven’t poled in a week n half now its cold. N I was poling 5 times a week. also the studio I go to has closed till Jan 🙁

I too get winter pole blues 🙁 its so hard to get motivated, my fitness slips in the winter. Have pole aria for christmas and Felix dvd set for birthday (new yr day) so hopefully this will kick start the motivation again, but i do layer up and gradually peel em off.

I wear a beanie or hat to keep me warm. It’s funny but it works for me. I used to have a membership for UV tan beds just for winter( rainy or cold) days. The business had a steam bed= miracle bed for me. Now I’m being creative with keeping warm. The beanie and a funky song to just dance around to. Get moving, sing along- to lift spirits and then do a small segment of exercise (whatever you’re working on that session).
We all have a curse (*weather* short or long curse) of winter blues. Not alone -
Well, the Colder weather may not be going anywhere soon, but the days are nearly at their shortest. 🙂 Dec 21 is the winter solstice and then we begin to swing the other way. I’m looking forward to it as well!

Yay! Halfway out of the dark. Beanies are awesome. Buffs too. Hoodies are good too. Sometimes the strings annoy me, but they are usually worth it. Easy on, easy off.

It could be worse, it was -18 today & it’s -20 now. That’s 20 degrees below zero. BRRR! Turning my heat way up to get my pole warm.

Wow -20?!!!! I was feeling sorry for myself cos I can't warm up my pole and it's only been -2.

Now I feel like a real wimp. It was only 20 F here last night. With the wind chill, it was down in the teens, though.
