I've just registered with the Antony Nolan Trust which is one of the UK bone marrow donations registers and would really urge anyone who qualifies to do the same! Donating bone marrow used to be a much harder process, but it's so straightforward now.

You just fill in the questionnare online, they send you a pack and you spit in the tube, send it back and you're on the register! If one day they think you're a match then you will have further health checks to make sure you're suitable. You used to have to go into hospital for a few nights to donate (and still can if you choose) but now a nurse will come to your home or workplace to give you injections over 3 days, then you go into hospital to make the donation but don't even have to stay overnight.

Not too much of a big deal to potentially save a life one day 🙂

I've been thinking about joining the register for a while, I hadn't heard of the Antony Nolan Trust though so I'll go check it out 🙂

Thanks for posting this here, Spinnesque.

As someone who has suffered with Kidney Disease and had my bone marrow affected rather significantly as a result, then having seen people in that time, having bone marrow issues and/or transplants, I would also encourage anyone who could, to sign up to the register. While donating bone marrow does take up your own time, it potentially saves a life – and I can't think of a better reason to sign up.

One small act of kindness can go such a long way 🙂
