So I had an interesting experience on Saturday. My leg cramped 3 times in gemini. After sufficient warm up.

Didn’t think anything of it, sometimes that happens and all I can think of when it happens is, “well, guess I better uninvert myself before my leg muscles stop functioning and I fall off the pole and die.” I’ve been doing gemini for 7 months, and I only remember this like..as a more recent, within the last three months sort of thing.

ANYWAY. My mother the nurse was completely not helpful. The pain I am experiencing is a tightness, similar to the kind you get from lactic acid buildup. But it’s been 5 days, and there has been almost no improvement in the last three. The first day (Sunday) I could only walk on my toes with my left foot. Walking with a flat foot was impossible. I was getting really bad pain from the back of the ankle all the way to the knee cap, but only when the foot was flexed straight. If I were to lay in bed and rest my leg, no problem. The next day, I could actually stretch (slowly) to a point where I could stand flat footed, but then if I moved my muscles would “forget” I stretched them and rubberband back into tightness. Tuesday I could walk with my feet flat but it is not pleasent.
Today is now Weds/Thursday (Thursday 1am) and I have not seen improvement since Tuesday. My mom assumed it was a blood clot, so I went to the ER and had an ultra-sound done. No bood clots (yay!). What I find interesting is that I have a knot behind the knee, about an inch lower than the patella, on the almost back of my calf. It’s right above the spot you get definition at when you tone your legs. According to google, it would be at the top of the medial head. Now when I stretch back it goes almost to the ankle. Again, stretching does not seem to help, my muscles seem to “forget” they’ve been stretched the second I let go of my toes. I am stretching them the same way you stretch your calves when you train for your splits. I know that’s not what did it, either. I’ve had my left side splits for 8 months, and can get into them cold no issues. I’m using a heating pad on them right now, and that seems to alieviate pain but not stiffness. Looking for suggestions as to how to get this to stop/what I did wrong so it doesn’t happen again. Sorry for my novel-length posts, just wanted to include as much information as possible @_@

I had just contracted the flu, so about one glass every hour or two and three with meals. When I played at the studio I was also constantly drinking water. Now I only have a stuffy nose so I’m easing back and drinking moderate amounts of coconut water.

I know this might sound strange but look at the color of your pee…the closer to clear it is the more hydrated you are, the darker it is the more dehydrated you are…if this doesnt work i would see a doctor

I do know that you can also get cramping from a lack of potassium, but you have a lump and pain when you're off the pole. It could be that you have a severe muscle or ligament strain. You may have done it a while ago, but since it is in a crucial part of your leg, it isn't getting enough rest. Here is my suggestion, for what it's worth:

    1) Take time off the pole

    2) Rest as much as you possibly can. Get that leg elevated.

    3) Continue using the heating pad as often as you can

    4) Massage and lightly stretch (point and flex toes) after about 20 minutes of heat, then heat again

    5) Repeat steps 3 & 4 as many times during the day as you can

    6) Check out Salonpas. You can get them at Walgreens or Walmart. These are what Alethea Austin refers to as "Crack Pads" and for very good reason. Slap one on and go.

    7) When you are not sitting, wrap an Ace bandage around the area for compression.

    8) If you do not get any relief in 4-5 days, I would see a Sports doctor

If you can afford a massage from a physiotherapist, it is highly recommended.

I hope it gets better, girl!!

I take a multivitamin, so I’m not sure if potassium issue, but I will start slipping a banana in for lunch 😛 Unfortunately, “don’t pole” is not a choice for me, as it is the only job I have and I am considerably broke after my vacation. But I am taking it easy, and refusing to let myself climb or anything where I might invert.

I slept with the pad around my leg last night and it helped a lot. I will ice when I get home and drink lots of water. Do you think it being “that time of the month” has anything to do with it?

Having a visit from Aunt Flo can certainly have a negative effect with any workout and healing. It just seems to suck all the good energy right out of your body, in my experience. So, yeah. It could be a hinderance. Oh, yeah. I didn't take your job into consideration. It sounds like you're doing what you can in the meantime. It just might make healing take a bit longer. xoxo
