After using my chrome Xpole today, I noticed a scratch on my inner thigh. I inspected my pole and noticed that the chrome coating around the adjuster holes (the ones that you use to tighten the center x-joint) is beginning to come off. I had noticed a small rough patch there once before, but I chalked it up to a cosmetic defect or a small nick from a shoe. It appears that the problem is getting worse, and now I can actually feel the sharp edge when I run my hand down the pole.

I found one other SV thread about this problem, but it was quite old and hadn't been updated for a while. Unfortunately the issue appears to be affecting the holes on both A and B pole, so I might need to replace both. I also just checked the spinner screws at the base and it appears that the area around them is beginning to flake too! I doubt I have ever touched those areas with a shoe. Is this normal wear and tear on an Xpole, or have I done something wrong? I've only ever cleaned my pole with rubbing alcohol and glass cleaner, and always with a soft cloth. I use the typical pole dance grip aids (dry hands, iTac) but nothing abrasive.

    Was your pole new?

I have seen this kind of damge when people did not tighten the hex screws with the allen wrench straight on or when they spun the XJoint and tried to get at the screw.  Besides that I do not think this is normal.  I know a few have been having issues getting a hold of XPole lately, but your best bet is to call them or send them an email.

I bought my pole new in early 2012. I did have a slightly rotated X joint not very long after I got the pole. The manual says over and over again not to over-tighten it… so of course I didn't tighten the middle joint enough, and it rotated just past the point where I could get at it.

After taking the pole apart and holding the stuck joint in pliers, we were finally able to rotate the joint back enough to get at it with the allen wrench, and the pole's been fine ever since (I check it constantly). That was nearly a year ago. If there was any damage to the holes caused by my attempts to get at the twisted X-joint, it took a long time to show up.

The rotated X joint is a pretty widespread problem and everyone I know with an Xpole has dealt with it. I was really annoyed when it happened because I've tried to be so careful.

I just did a few quick tricks on my pole (practicing some poses for a photo shoot tomorrow) and ended up scratching myself again. My pole isn't usable until I address this. Frustrating – I'm nervous to try any kind of home remedy until I talk to Xpole, and it seems like they're difficult to get in touch with.

It figures, the day before I do a pole photo shoot, and now I have a big ugly scratch on my knee pit. I'm not sure I can do anything with that knee without making an ouch face.
