lets start a thread on pre-performance rituals!

What do you do before a show to calm your nerves?  What do you do before a show to warm up and stretch?  What do you eat or drink- or do you avoid eating and drinking?  Do you watch any inspirational videos or listen to any particular song or music to pump you up??  Prayers?  Meditation?  Lucky underwear?  😀

I like to include glitter in my makeup!  Glittery makeup and shiney costumes really make me feel like a performer.  I warm up with some yoga and mild stretching.  I remind myself to be prepared to improvise if necessary and have a plan B trick or move if plan A doesn't work out.  I also remind myself to do my best and remember that the audience is on my side (that makes my nervous butterflys flutter away).  I don't eat too much because a full belly makes me fatigued and I allow myself only a half shot of something alcoholic if my nerves are out of control.   Videos of Felix Cane really help get me in the zone.

    What about you guys?

L-theanine.  I take it when I am preparing at home and I take additional with me if needed.

Typically I have listened to my music and have planned for failure prior to stepping in the door.  The last showcase I did I took my music with me and sat and listened to it during the few performances before mine.  Luckily they had a pole out in the hallway for us to warm up and practice on.

Now my last performance went totally haywire.  We were supposed to be the third act after intermission.  I was out in the audience talking to friends when I got a tap on my back telling me were were up next because some performers did not show.  This was at least an hour before we were scheduled.  I did not even have a chance to warm up or fix my makeup.  I barely had time to spray myself down with , but I am very happy that I had it.

I go through an array of emotions before a performance! Nerves, panic, all the what ifs. …so I usually stretch, listen to my music and pretty much pretend I’m alone back there hiding to try to calm myself! Then if someone starts talking to me I usually go on and on like a psycho chatterbox lol which calms my nerves a bit!

I tend to super-duper introvert. I plug in my music and go through my routine over and over… and of course try to really enjoy the music so that when I get on stage with it I can pump it out the way it's meant to be. If I don't go through my routine over and over just before I get on stage, I know my anxiety will get the best of me because it makes my brain basically shut down. I need the extra reinforcement to help me remember it when that happens.

I have to have my performance bag! It has my costume, warm up clothes I can wait in, makeup, hairspray, bobbypins, safety pins, sometiems even a hotel sewing kit…anything I might possibly need to fix my costume or hair. And grip aids of course!

I also get really hyper before I show so I goof off whith whoever's with me. Things like singing and acting out Defying Gravity (looove that song when I'm nervous!), running around doing jumps and being silly… Even when I don't know the people. I had my escort to the stage dance with me while they cleaned my poles lol

I tell myself that performing is just like teaching pole class so there should be nothing to be nervous about.
