    I was away this weekend with my parents and some friends at a caravan park. Whenever my mum & I are somewhere new we look for a playground or some sort of pole that we can do pole related things on lol anyway we found a playground and we decided to do a few moves chopper, gemini, butterfly etc.. and just have som fun on

    anyways there was a group of people close by and one guy yelled out and said " That's a STRIPPER move! "….. this really offended me, normally I dont care what other people think of pole but for some reason it really annoyed me and made me quite frustrated… maybe it's because they don't see pole dancing in the way we do? and i just wish they would see what it actually is….  i just hate the whole stigma that comes with pole dancing…..I really just wanted to march over there and set him straight lol

    but yeah just thought i'd share that and see if any one else has had this before? and how did they deal with it?

    🙂

    There's been a lot of threads over time about having run-ins with less-than-understanding friends, significant others, and coworkers. Unfortunately, pole has a stigma, and those of us who love it have to deal with ignorant people and misconceptions. I do think that as competitive pole becomes more widely known, the stigma will eventually fade, although that may take a long time. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is try not to let people's ignorance bother you, gently try to re-educate people where you can, remember to be selective about who you share your interest in pole with (for instance, being "out" about it at work is a complicated topic), and come here for support when you need it.

    thats the reason why i dont pole in public. i just dont think dealing with other people’s potential comments are worth the 30 seconds of joy i would get from busting out a sweet combo. kinda sad, but thats how i deal with it

    I still think public poling is worth it! Haters gonna hate… Don’t feed the trolls! 🙂

    I'd encountered something similar to this. But it wasn't a park, it was Hollywood Blvd. I was working on a film shoot and the director had two xtages in front of the Chinese Grauman Theatre for her documentary about pole fitness and the history (At the time, I'd only be poling for less than a couple months) The point of doing this was to interview passing tourists and the like and ask them their opinions on pole dancing and if they knew the difference between stripping and pole fitness. Of course, EVERYONE interviewed pretty much said the same thing "its exotic dancing" "stripping" All that jazz. The only time I got offended was one woman who passed by our set, she said it was disgusting. And, the dancers (including the director and myself) were on the stages, we did a few tricks, nothing too over the top. But all of us were fully clothed, we did nothing scandalous, or erotic. I did a fireman spin repeatedly. Only trick I knew at the time 🙂

    Bit off-topic villainvixen, but is there anywhere I can watch this documentary? It sounds really interesting 🙂

    @Kate92

    Sorry lol, was I rambling again? I tend to do that when trying to expand a point. But as far as the documentary. Not even sure if she's done. But you can see her 12 minute trailer.

    Just smile sweetly and say, "Gee, I didn't know it was a stripper move.  I guess you would know since you must go to strip clubs."  People react so funny to you being nice and sunny about things they think are crude.  Power too you!  Don't give up what you do, love the fact that you and your mum pole together.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_cheers.gif

    No no no, not at all! I meant my asking to see it was a bit off-topic. 🙂
