I haven't yet purchased a pole as I have been shopping around looking at brands, types, sizes and finishes and still havent' decided on what would be best for me. I am an absolute beginer with semi small hands. I've been told a 50mm Chrome would be best for general use but is it good for a beginer like me? What about the brass and the rumors I hear about it gripping better? I also hear it's eay to adjust from a bigger pole in diameter to a smaller one than it would be to learn on a smaller pole then move onto a bigger one. I like the prospect of graduating from one kind of a pole to another some time down the line, but until then what do you think would be best for an absolute bigger with semi small hands who lives in a non humid area?

On a seperate note, I've got a question about pole brands. I've come across alot of reviews of poles from brands like Xpole, Peekaboo, CarmenElectra, Lil Mix and My little Pole that have just snapped in half or collapsed do to poor quality maufacturing and poor customer services. Along with the kind of pole I should get, I am also conerned about the brand. I do not want to spend a huge amount of money on some cheaply manufactured product made by a company that doesn't care about their customers. If I'm going to spend alot of money on a pole it should be of good high quality to say the least. What brand would you consider to be the best for manufacturing and customer service quality?

I have a black lil mynx, the smaller one because i have small hands. It is very sturdy and i couldnt even imagine having one snap in half since it is all one piece (besides the small extension at the top to fit the ceiling height). Ive been swinging all over and am completely confident in its ability to hold up.
I went with the coated because the site said it was more grippy. Even so, i still slip down. Im sure that will stop as grip improves. It just takes time.
The best reviews i read were for xpole and lil mynx. I saw lots of warnings to stay away from carmen electra and my little pole.
When we installed the ceiling mount we stripped one of the screws. I emailed lil mynx and they shipped new ones out immediately, no charge. They were very nice.
Being in customer service i know that many complaints are “operator error” so i try to balance good vs bad reviews.
Spend a decent amount of money once, instead of spending twice. :). Hope you find one you like!

Yes, stay way from any of the carmen electra and peekaboo!! X pole and lil mynx are great options. As a home pole dancer there isn't much need for working on a 50mm larger pole, 45 is a better choice. Finish preference can very from person to person, but for new dancers a Chrome 45 x pole or powder coated 45 lil mynx are great options. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

Yes I've heard all kinds of bad reviews about the peekaboo and the carmen electra. (Yikes!) So far the XPole seems like the most popular and the one I'm leaning most towards. Do the powder coated or chrome have any significant differences?

I have only used Xpole xperts, in gold and chrome. I use 50mm at studio and bought a 45mm for home. I love it and it was worth EVERY PENNY!

I am also a beginner and I recently bought and installed a brass one-piece (permanent) pole from PoleDanzer. I knew just enough about finishes to choose brass because out of the few I’ve touched, I only stick to brass. And it’s very grippy. I actually use it with pyjamas on and I stick! It spins like a gyroscope and has a locking mechanism also. My only issue is that even though it’s a short pole (7’3″) it has a slight bow in it. I did my best to install it plumb but it may be off just enough that it bowed, but it’s firmly affixed top and bottom and the performance is not ( yet) affected. I’m not sure why PoleDanzer doesn’t get mentioned here much…I was very happy with the service, thrilled with the pole and the mounts it came with, and while it wasn’t cheap I feel it was a good value. Mine is 50 mm but I’m 5’10 and have strong hands that are not large nor small. Good luck, hope this helps some.
