Just a quick question on hair flips and the like. I love the hair/head moves pole dancers do but I don't have long hair ( short pixie) and wonder what women with very short hair can do that is like the long hair flips etc… ?  Also, I know this sounds silly but is a pole dancer with a short cut seen as less sexy ? Thanks ahead of time for replies. d.m.

Veena's hair is pretty short in this vid and it's one of my all time favourites in the sexy category

Here's another sexy vid she has with even shorter hair.

Also I can't remember links of any example vids but I've seen pixie cut polers do the head flip motion. My guess is you'd probably exaggerate it a bit more so the movement shows.

Oh and one last thing as far as short cuts being less sexy, two words: Amber Rose

The first professional pole dancer I saw was Felix Cane (on The Tyra Banks Show). Try looking up some of her videos. She’s an amazing dancer who rocks short hair too!

I should have added that originally I didn’t even notice her hair during that performance because her dancing was so beautiful.

Exactly, Felix is such a good example. She wears short hair in the 2008 miss pole dance australia performance but does head rolls anyway. It's not just about the hair itself! I'm sure no one would mind you doing rolls or flip-like movements. We need to think outside the box, so forget about "limits".

I think MANY women look good and sexy in quite short hair and have had it myself (but not now). Sexy is mostly about being confident and not so much about fullfilling the current beauty ideals on each and every point.

I guess Felix Cane is stronly associated with the word sexy for most people so obviously short hair is not an obstacle 🙂

This is a great thread. I have long hair, but I don't like wearing it down when I dance. It gets in my face and mouth, and sometimes when I do floorwork on my back, it gets stuck! I always felt a bit silly doing head flips with a ponytail or bun. Nice to know that dancers can still be sexy without hair flowing down the back.

I always just think more of a playful shaking or a sexy head toss, rather than thinking about flipping hair I don't have. There have been a few routines at the studio that wanted hair drags and flips, just adapt them. I found if I try to pretend there is hair there or do a hair flick without the hair for it, it looks kinduh silly because I overestimate the movement needed.

Thanks so much for everyones input! After watching the women mentioned videos I can see that long hair is not required and head rolls etc… look pretty darn good on short haired women.

Feel a little silly but long hair is mostly what I see. I geuss it's like one woman posted. We need to think outside of the box. Again, much thanks. d.m.

You can also use your shoulders to add volume to the movement.

Hey! I love those pixie cuts! They're soo cute!

For ladies with shorter hair, I really notice that it's less about the hair flips, and more about interacting directly with your hair. If you're comfortable with it (I know I'm not, because my hair will turn immediately to frizz), you can run your fingers through your hair! Up the front, down the back, or in the opposite direction.

Just think about all the ways you can fondle your hair!

I'm going to have to do some research, too 😉 I'm still growing my hair out, and haven't thought much about the head tosses!

I don't like touching my hair when I dance – I always have hair cream or something in it, and it makes my hands slippery…

Never thought of fondling my hair before. I have a bit of a mohawk going on lol it feels odd to have most of it buzzed off and the top is like a bird feather, but I am gonna try playing with that and see if it works. Good idea!
