I just started tp pole again after not for about 5 months. I never put 100% into it but I was getting better. Now after today of just trying pole sits and inverts the inside of my legs are killing me. I work out alot. Is this normal? I just kept slipping down the pole. I couldn't get a strong enough grip 🙁 I really want to get back into this but I'm so bummed and discouraged. I need a pep talk from someone..I know I shouldn't pole everyday, but how many times a week and for how long would be wise…………..to get back into it…..the right way..

I started poling again after 7 years almost a year ago. I realized that i never really gave myself credit back then for having the strength, flexibility, and confidence to pole!! some intermed./adv moves i could still do, but some took me a bit to get back. And of course in the pole world the moves are endless!! when u git it then u do a deadlift when u got that then there is an aerial deadlift. Its exciting and challenging, a personal journey. anyhow..I started out (for lack of my own pole) at a studio once a week for about an hour or two. I would do pole excercises and spins as well as inverts and other moves (I had hoped it was like riding a bike). I would freestyle and do floorwork as well. Now I have a pole at home and I still go to studio an hour or two once a week as well as try to fit in 1-2 days of pole at home. Your body will get used to it 🙂 I could feel myself getting stronger just going once a week..it’s a great feeling!!

I generally find most are not properly engaging the muscles in things like pole sits and crucifix etc….

The "owie" factor from skin contact does go away again with time and practice. I own a studio and teach 6 days a week and I still get the ow factor if I haven't done a particular skill for a bit…

I actually go around and poke all my students on the butt, thighs etc…….to remind them to squeeze.  So many of them are relying on just skin contact to do the job and muscles need to be working.

If you are still slipping and you are really squeezing…

It could be dry skin, pole not warm enough, you not warm enough, slippery lotions….

I have really dry skin most of the time and it is worse at this time of year. I have great success with Aveeno Naturals Moisturizing Lotion and when needed.

I also find I am more slippery if I haven't shaved for a few days(no idea why hair stubble is a factor) and if I haven't properly exfoliated recently.

As for frequency–a few days a week is good but listen to your body. It needs rest in order to recover and get stronger. If you have Veena's Lessons……she has a wonderful 30day takeoff!!
