Hi girls im so depressed, I was smart enough to "jump" on pole without any warmup, and i think i sprained my elbow…..Had to take advil for a few days….Anyway, I only waited about 2 days and wanted to pole again, and the pain came right back 🙁 Now I have to cancel my pole class in 3 days, it sucks so much, but the worst part ive been practicing every day so far at home and I can't imagine a week or so without poling!!!! So upset and frustrated((( Does anyone have any idea how much i need to wait before I can practice again? I mean, it doesnt hurt on its own but i cant really lift anything with my hand and decided to wear a sling so I dont move the arm…. Im terrified it will never ever heal again https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif Or that I will lose all my muscle in that arm without practice lol Maybe someone here knows how it feels…. https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

What class were you scheduled into?  And what moves cause the pain?  Can you work on the opposite side?

And where were you last weekend for the showcase??!!

I canceled Saturday class at Be Studios:( Im not sure what is wrong but it hurts to straighten my arm somewhere in my elbow, im trying to do stuff with my right hand but you can only do so much using one hand ONLY lol  it even hurts to lift a cup or a purse with my left hand, so I decided i gotta give it a break …https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif

I was there for the showcase https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif me and my friend came lil late, so we were like all the way back https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif some of the performances were just amazing, but it felt that few times they put way to much grip aid on the pole, making it hard to slide, don't you think?:)

Having slipped down the pole last year during my performance I would say no.  With how hot the studio was along with the window open right next to the pole + nerves I would rather be stuck to the pole than slip off it.  I was third row and was standing on the side next to the windows during some of the performances video taping.  I wish I would have known who you were as I would have said hello!

I just tore the crap out of my hamstring muscles and honestly paying for a sports massage is probably the only reason I am walking without a limp right now.  I know there are a few threads on here about polers who have had issues with tennis elbow.  If it is that painful then it is best to rest it.  Yeah, it sucks, but doing more damage sucks worse!

Hi Anastasiakowa…I have chronic elbow/forearm/wrist issues. I get trigger point massage and trigger point acupuncture every 4 or so months to keep it in check. Anyway, without knowing what move you were doing or specifically where it hurts I can give you advise based on your inability to lift a cup or your purse:

Take at least 2-3 weeks off the pole, at least. As many times during the day as you can, wrap a heating pad around your arm from elbow to hand, Keep it on for about 20 minutes. Alternatively, use a moist, hot towel. Keep it on there until it cools. Place your elbow on a table, hand up so arm is at 90 degree angle. Keep the entire upper part of your arm flat on the table. Gently massage your arm starting at the elbow and working towards your hand using long strokes. Go as deep as feels comfortable. You do not want to feel pain. Feel free to use lotion so you don't stretch your skin uncomfortably. You should focus on 4 different areas. The "top" of the arm, the left side, and then the right side. 10 minutes each. Also, try to get the area just above and in the joint of the elbow.

If you can handle ibuprofen, this will help with any inflammation and discomfort.

If you have Veena's lessons, use her forearm and wrist stretches, but go easy for a bit.

If you are still not able to lift a cup or your purse after a few days of the above therapy, I would get it checked out.

Make sure you don't have any pain at all before continuing on the pole, and then take it  easy with static spins for a while, as these seem to really aggravate those muscles. (Flexors and Extensors)

Once you are better, I would continue with the stretches, and add in some strengthening exercises.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, but I have gone through this many times!

    Hope it feels better soon!!

Hey Ana…longname… I don't believe we've met. I'm Korinne from the showcase. Ice, NSAIDS, and take it easy for a couple weeks. If it's bad enough that you can't lift your purse, you shouldn't be putting your body weight on it for a while.
