So my studio has a mix of classes from pole to polefit to floor work to exotic dancing and I've been taking two classes, five out of the seven days of the week.  But because of the scheduling, my rest days fall on Friday and Saturday so they are not spread out across the week.  I've heard that to build muscle mass you should throw in a rest day in between…so not sure if what I'm doing is bad or if it will hault progress.  Thoughts?  Advice?

If you're new to pole dance you should have a full day of active rest or as I call it a "Rejuvenation day" in between pole sessions. If you don't take time to rest, you risk overuse injury and could compromise your progress. Muscle rebuilds (grows stronger) during REST, not during use. When you use the muscles heavily, the muscle fibers tear down, this is what you want…. however, if you don't allow for recovery (rest) then the fibers will not be able to repair, there for impeding growth.

I'm not sure if you are using the pole for all of the classes you listed or not. If so you might want to think about resting more between classes. If the classes really vary the muscle groups used or some focus more on cardio then strength you should be fine.https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_flower.gif

    Thanks, Veena!

I'm not really new to pole but recently started moving onto more advanced intermediate stuff so I'm really starting to feel it in my back and shoulders due to the frequency.  But yeah, the majority of the classes involve the scapula and back so I think I need to step back a bit.  I guess I just needed to hear it from someone so I didn't feel that I was getting lazy.  Thanks again!

I pole monday tuesday n wednesday n then rest off week off. these are the only days I can do. but I mist admit my wednesday class is hardest and tuesday im so much better. so I think breaks do matter as id love to take a day of it between bit cnt spread it that way. but what you could try is working difrent bits each time. say floor work one day. legs another. and arms another but poling does make thay rather hard to do lol. xxx

5 days in a row isn't unreasonable, but if you're working the same muscles/feeling your muscle soreness compound, you need a day off at least.

I haven't blogged in awhile but I dug up this post on overtraining I wrote awhile back. It's more about training at home than taking a ton of classes, but the principles are the same.

    Happy training 🙂

Thanks for the advice and input.  I agree that it is hard to rotate different bits with pole.  I'm reading the blog article and it really does sound a bit like me…oh dear….  It was good read.  I wish I had a coach to work out my schedule!
