I'm doing the 30 day take off, and am on day 5. I completed the days tasks, and wasn't tired or wanting to stop on my pole lol, so I browsed some beginner stuff. I tried a pole climb….and omg it hurt SO bad. Every time I would watch pole videos, before getting my own, I would think "how is that not pinching, and killing, your skin?!?!". Well, when I went up on the pole, and got the pole in between my thighs, OUCH. It pinched my skin and hurt exactly like I imagined it would! Is that normal?! Does every single move pinch your skin like that? I can't see how it doesn't….but I've never seen a video where it looked like someone was in pain; and if it does do that all of the time, I couldn't imagine anyone continuing with that. Is it just me…..?

Yes it is normal. The more you do it the less it hurts 🙂

LOL yep, it's totally normal and the more you do it the less it hurts. Also keep in mind that you should also be contracting the muscles to keep you on the pole and not only relying on skin contact.

lol Reminds me of the time I introduced my cousin to pole. She was so determined her first day she worked for hours trying to do a basic climb and pole sit. We finished off with a round of spins and such until she wanted to stop. The next day when she woke up I heard her lamenting “OH MY GAWWWWWWWD! Is it SUPPOSED to feel like this?! You’re CRAZY! Ughhhhhhhhh!!!” While I assurred her that it goes away w/ time (and I had warned her to not over-do it) it was no use. She did not stick w/ pole because she couldn’t commit to it.

I guess Tom Hanks said it best in ‘A League of Their Own’:

“Of course the game is hard. If is wasn’t hard everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.” 🙂
