    Hey everyone!

I'm new to this board, just signed up today.  I am a 26 year old female and just had my 1st baby in August 2012.  I currently weigh about 202lbs and am determined to get down to a healthier weight.  I've always been on the curvier side, but gained about 30lbs after meeting my husband due to our horrible eating habits!  I had started pole dancing in NY a few years ago, when pole just started to get famous, but it was super expensive at the time and I just didn't have the time.  Well…now I have the time!  I just bought an X-Pole X-Pert and my hubby installed it last night.  I'll also be taking classes at a studio.

What I want to know is…are there any curvy girls on here that pole?  I get motivation from watching everyone's videos…but also feel like the fat girl who won't be able to pull herself up.  Has anyone lost weight from pole dancing?  Or are there any curvy girls who went from being completely horrible to pretty damn good?  LOL.  I plan on also incorporating zumba and hopefully yoga.

    This site is awesome!

There are a lot of us Curvy pole dancers.  Roz Mays is a one, I love her to peices.  She was Luenells body double in Thats My Boy.  Theres Loveracing25 on YT.  Also Lori Myers as well, I dont think shes got any videos but shes a big advocate of loving yourself regardless of size.  Then theres me, Ive been on YT for some years now and have made it to the national spotlight with tv appearances on Inside Edition, TruTV and Americas Got Talent.

So we are out there and were proud of it.

I'm 5'5, 27 years old, and weighed in about where you are in December of 2009. Through hooping, poling, and salsa dance, I've lost 73 lbs. I am still not at my goal, but very proud of how far I've come, and very proud of the muscles I have built from poling. When I first started, I could not hold myself up. I would shuffle, cling to the pole, and put my feet back down lol. Now I can climb and do all sorts of things. Even if the scale isn't moving, I can SEE tummy muscles now for the first time in my LIFE. Just have fun with it!!

Welcome to SV  you're @ the right place. I haven't been poling long but I'm a curvy girl and proud of it. pole dancing has helped me become stronger, flexible and able to do things I thought I could never do I love it because I've found an activity for me. I've helped raise my children, grandchildren, nieces, & nephews and others now, its my turn to enjoy. pole dancing helps me express outwardly what's inside of me. I'll be a freshman in college this fall something I've always wanted to do, but never had the time between family & work like I said earlier "its my time now" I've been on my pole journey about 2 weeks  I feel stronger, sexy and empowered I went from pole holding 1 second to 15 seconds this makes me feel soooo good it doesn't sound like much but it is. you'll see. This site is a great place for love, encouragement and support everyone feels like family so feel free to post whatever. oh yeah, BTW my hubby is a southern boy and he likes his girl THICK (lol) Have Fun!!

Thank you for the support everyone!  I hopped on my pole last night (first time I've been on a pole in years) and I am still able to do the only 2 spins I know!  Ha!  Not sexy of course…but I can somewhat manage.  I am excited to practice and progress.  Starting my studio classes on Monday, can't wait!  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Don't worry about your weight or curves being an issue. When I started poling I was almost 240 and I have lost a lot but I still have a long way to go. I started weight training 1 month ago and man it has made a difference but I still have my curves.

Hunny im bigger boned and curvy. I had two babys and have now started using poling to lose this excess weight n fat.I want to be sexy and feel good about myself. Since I have started doing it seriously I love it. The weight is coming off fast and my strength is better n better. My fiancee said flex the other day. He feels my bicep. He was like omg your arms are huge. They may be bigger than mine. Its kinda flattering though bc I like my guy to know Im equal as him. Pole fitness is amazing. Happy Poleing

Totally lots of curvy girls here that pole!

I'd consider myself "curvy," in that I'm 175lbs, and it's mostly hips, legs and boobs 😛

I'm not "Small," and I never will be. I bulk up on muscle, and I'm not ashamed or unhappy about that. I've got fat around my hips, and I'm also not unhappy about that!

Don't push yourself on the weight issue- you'll see it fluctuate, but know that you're getting healthier, and you'll feel really good, and that's the whole point!

Happy to have you on the forums!

Thanks again everyone!  I went on the pole again last night after zumba…oh man, I was sore from the night before.  I am feeling it most in my forearms almost all the way down to my wrist, and my biceps.  Is this right?  Just scared of tearing something by doing a move wrong since I haven't been to class yet!

I've been heavy my whole life and now I'm 51, 188 lbs. and I love to pole! I feel sexier, healthier and stronger than ever, so do NOT let your size get you down or stop you from doing what you love! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif

Size is relative.  My favorite dancers tend to be curvy.  I love hips and curves.  I have always found that curvy girls have many advantages when I comes to pole.  Hips that swivel and swerve beautifully whether your movement is big or small ( thinner girls have to work to make their curves show) strong legs for climbing and leg holds (I struggle with leg holds.). No matter your body type there are advantages and disadvantages when it comes to pole, that's what makes each dancer so amazing, the journey through figuring out what feels good and what you love to do.  No matter your body type, everyone starts out feeling awkward but over time we all find our dancer and style.  Welcome back to pole, welcome to SV and enjoy this journey!
