Shouldermount flip
Posted by dustbunny on May 10, 2013 at 10:07 pmAnyone got tips for starting this? My shouldermount is quite comfortable and stable in the air now and I think I'm ready to flip it right over, not sure where to begin. I've seen it done from a kneeling level so I'm not planning on attempting this at full height, but are there exercises I can do to build up to it or should I just get a mat and spotter and go for it?

Are you talking about flipping all the way over? Like back on the ground? If so i would like to learn this as well! Or do you mean flip up into the inverted crucifix?
-
To clarify, yes book to the ground and eventually to a pole sit.

I used these two vids learn it:

I had forgotten that most people use the Veena grip for the flip. Is it possible to do with a regular double cup grip? Maybe my first step will have to be getting comfortable with a new grip.

I tried learning it with the Veena grip, but I was so much more comfortable with the double cup grip that I use that now. I learned it with a mat and a spotter. Somehow it seemed easier to me from standing rather than from kneeling.

I use double cup, nothing else feels secure to me during the actual flip part. But other dancers say the opposite….so I think it's mostly what you're used to.

i was actually thinking about posting this as a topic too…but, i wanna know should i expect the first time i try this i might slam into the pole and hurt the lady bits

I have smacked my shins (doing flip to sit) a time or two when I've flipped a little too quickly … never my bits.

ok..i think i can deal with risking hitting my shins, that does make it less intimidating, i guess its best to use slow and controlled movements, but maybe for my first time im gonna prepare myself with extra padding, some soccer shin guards and some pillows if i fall. lol
