    Ok, I am flabergasted!!!

I have been having increasing pain for 2 days now over my rhomboid on my right side.  Woke up today and even though the pain is on the right, I couldn't turn my head to the left with pain around the rhomboid area (spine to shoulder blade), couldn't look down without pain, was getting even harder to breath deep.

So doing some searching because my normal stretches weren't helping, I found a video proclaiming "quit blaming the rhomboids"

I watched it, did what she said, 2 minutes later, pain is gone!  There is some residual tenderness still, but I can move my neck now.

It's your RIB!  NOT your Rhomboid!!!

I think this is especially important for us pole'rs.  Since we do things unilaterally at one time and many if not most of us only invert on one side, this happens a lot!  I can't tell you how many of my students this has happened too.  I've had to send many to the chiro to get readjusted.  So I don't know why I thought it was my rhomboid and not my rib.

I can't tell you how much better I feel!

    Watch and learn!!! YEA!

for me, I think I strained my intercostals doing twisting stretches and the ballerina stretch. Now it hurts to lean and twist on my left side. Gaaaa!

HAHAH!  Yea, I am one huge giant mess.  My fibro makes me more susceptible to injury I'm sure of it.  My rib is a little twisted again today, not like it was the last few days.  But I expected that.  I'm about to get back on my ball!

Thank you!!  My right side has been in pain for almost 20 years now.  Going to try this out.

I've taken to Rolfing, and it has completely fixed that( and tons more) issue I was having. Turns out my right shoulder was rotated inwards and downwards… putting unnecessary strain on those muscles. After one session it went and has stayed away….I'm going on 2mo. This therapy/technique is just magical… I really have no words other than it is THE answer to chronic pain and improper muscle functions!! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Good to know. I have suffered from this in the past and still get that tinge occasionally. I will give this a go next time I feel that pain and report back!

This is interesting. I have had pain around my shoulder blade at varying degrees for about two years. My chiropractor does adjust a rib now and again when I go and I seem to be getting better and better, wonder if this is the same thing…

Ive had the same problem and the doc said it was a rhomboid strain but the PT said it wasnt either. It's the muscles that attach your shoulders to your ribs like you said. She gave me some exercises to do to stabalize them and get rid of my scapular winging and its helping a bunch and my back isnt nearly as hunched either. You also need to stretch your pec muscles and chest. I do it by standing in a doorway and putting my forearms on the side of the walls so im making a " w" (hands about head level and palms on the wall) then lean forward with your chest without arching your back. Doing some scapular winging prevention exercises and that stretch should help. Never heard of rolfing but i'm going to now! Thanks!

I'd like to also add my rolfing experience. It's completely changed my life! As a therapist, I expected other therapists to help me with my pain/tightness issues. However it wasn't until I finally went to a rolfer that my whole posture, flexibility, and even strength changed dramatically. Rolfers seem to have an incredible insight into body issues, that typical medicine doesn't have. Not to knock my fellow therapists, but I'd highly recommend seeing a rolfer for just about any issue you are dealing with. You'd be amazed at the change in your body! https://www.studioveena.com/img/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
