You ladies (and gents) are so creative, so I wanted to put this out there and see if you all had some great ideas I haven't come up with.

(Bless you if you can make it through my ramblings. Sorry about how long this turned out.)

I, after much prodding, finally convinced my best friend (for 10+ years!) to come to the studio with me. She has medical issues which make weight control particularly difficult and she's not as comfortable with herself as she'd like to be. Nevertheless, she's agreed to join me.

I am thrilled. She is apprehensive. I first set foot in a pole studio in February 2011 and although I have taken several breaks and am not very far along trick-wise, I can tell you I LOVE POLE! It makes me happy and I want her to experience that same joy by sharing it with her.

I want to give her a gift bag of some sort to say "THANK YOU for doing this with me" and provide her with some things that might be useful in the world of pole. I have some Pleasers that I think were mislabeled as a 7 when they're actually a larger size. I bought them on clearance so no returns. She loves shoes, so I am thinking about seeing if they fit her and passing them on. I've also thought about buying a tank top and some capri-length workout pants. I know she'd feel more comfortable with the length than with shorter shorts, plus since I've been at the studio forever I know that she won't need the grip for this Introductory workshop. I just worry about buying the wrong size or something that she won't feel comfortable in. I want her to feel cute and sexy and like she can let loose and have fun, not worrying about or fussing over her clothes.

I also thought about getting a little tote bag and decorating it and putting my goodies inside it for her.

I want to be thoughtful and let her know how much it means to me (and maybe give her some supplies to continue it with me). I have the concept, but not much else.

    Help me?

I think you've really got a good start already! Workout pants and a top can be useful whatever she's doing- even if she wants to be comfortable at home, if she decides pole isn't for her!

I would say to buy her some nice chocolate, but it's up to you 😉 I know that I love chocolate, and that it would definitely make my day!

I think the tote bag is a great idea, you could buy a water bottle, towel, a cute little note book and pen, a tennis ball (for strengthening hands and massage) mints. You might want to offer to help her shop for pole wear so you don't buy something too small, if she is sensitive to that.

What about a fun sparkly head band or hair tie for pole? Also some sparkly wrist warmers….which if u buy a pair, u can sew all kinds of neat things on them. I need to get a pair myself…i see lots of people here use them. Or a boa, leg warmers or what about a pair of Footzies?

If you look through the threads regarding "what's in your pole bag" you will find some other great ideas.  My bag has grips, pony tail holders, crotch blossom (body spray for those extra sweaty days, this is just a funny term we call it), notepad, pens and markers, a small cosmetics bag that has hair spray/mirror/brush, LONG leg warmers, extra booty shorts/tank/sports bra, foot undeez, 5 hour energy drinks, microfiber towels, small spray bottle of alcohol, a strap for stretching, elastic bands for stretching…..I think that might be it (this is all off memory).  If weight is an issue for her I would really look at some sort of knee protection for her for floor work as that can be brutal.

I did something similar for a friend's birthday. She bought me my first aerial classes for my birthday last summer, so when hers came around I wanted to incorporate that into her gift since its our favorite thing to do together. I got her a tote bag filled with knee high socks, a hand grip, some arnica cream (SO good for bruising), and a set of stretch/resistance bands. She loved it and has since told me that she uses everything regularly 😀

i second lyme’s suggestion of wrist warmers. i assume those are also just wrist protectors? because static spins really rub the wrists raw on a beginner.
    🙂

I'm loving the suggestions so far! Keep it up!

I wish I had wrist protection when first starting. I've actually rubbed the skin off of my wrist from being so excited and trying so hard to get a spin. A quarter-sized chunk of skin was just gone and then I spent the next few weeks desperately trying to keep a bandage on it while still practicing.

I know this is only one workshop (1.5 hours) but I hope she'll come back with me again. It's really difficult with our schedules right now, but she's planning on moving closer to me (about 35 miles away now) in August.

I'm getting ready to order some things for my friend's "pole bag"!

So far, I've got coordinating headbands for the both of us, knee pads, grip-strengthening stress ball, thigh high leg warmers, arnica gel, and a hot pink water tumbler for her.

I also have plans to include two microfiber towels (one for sweat, one for pole), a small spray bottle of alcohol, and a few other small things.

I'm still looking for fresh ideas and thanks to everyone who already chimed in. You've helped so much already!

I bought some cute fabric today and am going to be trying my hand at sewing my own Strength Wraps/Vertical Swag wraps. The designs from both those companies just didn't quite suit what I wanted as far as colors and coordination goes, so I'm going DIY for this! I hope it turns out well.
