  • Pole Expo – where to stay?

    Hi polers –

Any recommendations on where to stay for the Las Vegas pole expo? I saw The Palms is off of the main strip, so I was debating if my friends and I should stay on the strip/taxi over to the expo… Or if we’re going to be spending so much time there that it would be worth it to stay in the immediate vicinity? Any past attendees-recommendations are welcome since this will be our first! 🙂

As a previously frequent Las Vegas visitor and now resident let me suggest Fremont Street.  The only drawback is you will need to bus, carpool or taxi to the Strip, however the positives are many.

Fremont Street is classic Vegas.  Starting with the inexpensive hotel rooms that can generally be had for under $30/night at fun casinos like the 4 Queens not to mention the inexpensive food.  This is where the name Glitter Gulch was born to refer to all the flashing lights that Vegas is known for.  Fremont Street is utterly walkable and there are three bandshells that have live bands playing most nights.  There are street shows and lots of souvenir vendors.  A Vegas keychain will probably cost you $20 on the strip but on Fremont street you can get 10 keychains for $10.  At night you will be able to enjoy the Fremont street experience which is a three block long video screen that plays custom designed music videos every hour on the hour.  Just my two cents.

Last year I stayed in the Palms. Totally worth it because we spent all day there. It was nice to be able to go back to your room for a short nap or a clothes change.

I'll probably stay at the Rio or Palace Station. The rooms are cheap for the amount of quality you get, and both are only about a mile from the Palms. I have a feeling the Palms room rate is going to go up because of the convention, so I'm staying off site.

Since it's my birthday, Sunday night I'll be staying at Aria or the Venetian 🙂 When I lived in Vegas we only recommended people stay at any of the "Station" (Fiesta, Texas, Palace, etc) casinos because the rooms are a great price and the buffets are usually the best in town.

If you want a cheaper hotel ON the strip, I recommend the Excalibur. Especially if you plan on bringing kids or a big family. It's a really entertaining place to stay 🙂

The Palms actually had very nice discounted prices because of the expo.

Palms is a really great hotel actually, it is one of my faves in Vegas (second fave is Venetian) it's just a really happening hotel, with great dance clubs and overall vibe…if you guys can afford to stay there I would. I also really love Palms Place, which is part of the Palms but they are studio apartment style, quiet, roomy and very nice.

Cabs can get pricey for getting around Vegas, so I wouldn't suggest staying on the strip unless you have a car/will be renting a car in Vegas. It might be worth while to all pitch in and rent a car whether you decide to stay at Palms or elsewhere because if you have never been to Vegas, there is so much to see and do and a car will make getting around to see everything so much easier!

If you do decide to stay on the Strip, some great hotels are Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Planet Hollywood, Cosmopolitian, New York, NY and MGM grand.

Now if you are looking for economy and clean and comfortable rooms on the strip check out Bally's, Tropicana or Harrahs.

As webby mentioned, downtown Vegas is cool and fun especially at night…I would suggest the Golden Nugget hotel if you choose to stay downtown, as Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel out of all the downtown Vegas hotels and has a killer pool. HTH!

I will second the Golden Nugget, the only problem with it is that its almost as pricey as staying on the Strip.  If economy is important check out the 4 queens, binions, the Fremont, the Main Street or The D.

I highly recomend renting a car.  You can generally find one at Fox Rent A Car for about12-15 dollars a day.  It's way cheaper than cabbing anywhere, parking is free on the strip, and the strip is big.  Plus if you want to get off strip and try some of the nationally reknowned restaraunts like Hash House A-Go-Go its essential.

If you're looking for an off strip hotel the Tuscany hotel and suites is great and we've stayed there for around 30 bucks! It has kitchenettes, large bathrooms and even space for a pole in the living area if needed, not that anyone would ever do that. lol There is a nice laundry area too.

I didn't like the NY NY hotel rooms, if you're a non smoker, it seemed like the smoke smell was everywhere!

If you wanna stay close to the action then go with the palms.

My friends and I booked a room at the Palms. They are actually doing discounted rates for pole expo ($89 Thursday, $129 Friday, $129 Saturday, and $89 Sunday). Plus, breakfast is included in the expo pass and you won’t have to spend money on cabs to and from the hotel. And you’ll be where all the pole action is at!
