    Hi Everyone,

Just curious as to your experiences out there with injuries…

Just recently, I went to my doctor because it has become really painful to raise my left arm to the front and to the sides. To the back, though, is no problem.

He said I was feeling pain in my shoulder because my biceps were really tight. He showed me a massage technique to do on them which would loosen the  muscle and ease the pain of the tendons connected to the shoulder.

Have any of you ever had this kind of problem? 🙁 Did you manage to get through it? I really want to be able to use my left arm again and move it around, but right now it looks like I'll be forced to take a break 🙁

    Hey!

I actually had a very similar issue after I moved (about three weeks ago, now) and my doctor recommended careful, slow movement up and down with the shoulder, three times a day, ten reps each. She said if it was too difficult to just lift the arm, I could walk my fingers up a wall for help.

Both my shoulders were pretty bad, and I'm still getting the kinks out, but they've really improved.

The thing I would suggest being careful of is aggravating your shoulder further. You never know, simple rest may be the only solution for it (for me, it was those exercises, and definitely rest!). I know that's never what we want to hear 😉

    Hey,

Thanks for the insight! Will just take it easy and try not to aggravate it.I wasn't given any exercises to do… Thanks for the tips! I do find it much easier to walk fingers up a wall rather than raise the arm by itself :p

I'm working through a similar issue, with a tight shoulder. My left shoulder has felt tight for the past 3 years. I believe it started when I began doing cartwheel handsprings. after seeing a few chiropractors and massage therapists, it would appear that my rotator cuff is weakened. I have normal range of motion with no pain. But the moment I stretch beyond that, I feel the tightness. I mostly feel it if I press my the side of my forearm against the wall (elbow bent) and turn my chest away. My chiro gave me some excellent rotator cuff exercises in addition to chest exercises. I'm praying to god that it doesn't become permanently damaged!

Wow, 3 years! I hope things get better! I've just scheduled an appointment with a massage therapist, so hope that helps. It's annoying when you think things are getting better, but the next day, you're back to feeling pain or tightness 🙁 Oh well…

Hmm, mine is slightly different – due to having loose shoulder joints, I tore (not operation level but still) both my rotator cuffs in martial arts, and had to spend a lot of time rehabilitating – which worked, except now I am too tight in the shoulders for some moves and I have built up extra muscle around the area which has reduced my flexibility and makes me 'tight'. Also, I tend to do everything with my traps, and have had to do a lot of rhomboid muscle exercises to fix some spine issues that happened as a result. I don't know if massage is enough though – you might need some exercises? If so – it will take time, but it works. Also, make sure you are stretching out your triceps too – I learnt that in order to make gains on one side, the other side also needs to be addressed. 🙂
