hey ladiez, i was curious if anyone has made a homemade pole before. i alreaDY have my xpole that im ok with but its in my low ceiling basement. which only gives me little room for climbing. i was thinking of making a standalone stage with a pole for my high ceiling living room. i havnt measured my living room ceilings but its way to height for me to think about installing a pole way up there and some parts are vaulted.has anyone created a stage pole or know how to. i already have a 4'x4' stage platform that ive used, but its an octagon(stop sign) shape. any advice

Joel's first pole I think was just galvanized steel which is horrible for grip.  When you start looking into the cost of a good material fore the pole it starts getting expensive.  I know probably the best place to get stainless is through Summit Racing or the like and look at stainless exhaust pipe.  For brass Markstaar has about the best prices.

2" Stainless (10 foot lengths toward bottom of page):

I bought a 2 inch OD steel pipe and painted it with an oil based paint.  Then I dug a hole with post hole diggers and drove a tpost into that hole all the way down so only about a foot stuck up above ground.  Then put the pole over the tpost and then added concrete.  Leave about 2 inches at the top and allow the concrete to harden then fill in the rest of the hole with dirt to leave a soft layer on top.  Boom.  You have a bad ass, has a great grip outdoor pole.  Make sure you check when getting your pipe that when you ask for 2 inch you as for OD…. Otherwise you could end up with ID…..  Outer deminsion, Inner deminsion.

I was going to mention painting a pole as well for better grip. I had a c brome pole I hated, so I sray painted it and it has the BEST grip for me……not as much as a powder coated, but more so than the chrome…..

I haven't personally made a stage pole but like you I really want to! In my research I found a few links that might help you. The first one will probably interest you more than the second.

    http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Stripper-Pole!-Stripper-not-included/?&sort=ACTIVE&limit=40&offset=80#DISCUSS

Even though these are "stripper" poles, from looking at the design and the schematics they should be adequate for your use. These pages were created around 2004-2006 when the word pole was more synonymous with the word stripper than it is today.

I was most interested in the pole that Karusia and Alan built. Their pole is featured on the first link. I haven't contacted them yet but their facebook profiles are:
    https://www.facebook.com/karusia.wroblewski/ and

As far as materials go, you can find plumbing pipes at your local hardware store but I've looked at them and they're really rough. And they probably really suck for grip. You can however get those and get them chromed at an autobody shop, but it's a bit expensive. The exhaust piping that chemgoddess was talking about might work if they make any that is threaded for flanges. If you can get it threaded that would be ideal since you can then have a semi portable stage pole! Of course it's still not as portable as an X-Pole stage but at least the pole would come apart from the stage.

There is also a version of a spinning pole on the first link but I personally wouldn't want a spinning pole on a stage pole. That's just my personal preference. Hope this helps! 🙂 If you get around to making one please post a picture so we can see how it turns out!
