I'm looking for some costume inspiration for my first competition. I want something simple to suit my piece, maybe with something that would give some pretty flow when I'm moving or on spin pole. Also, trying to keep costs down. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

It got me thinking, what are some of your favorite performance costumes (if you can link in an image or youtube vid, that would be great!)?

Are there certain hairstyles or makeup that you really loved during a performance?

What a fun post! First, I want to say congratulations for entering your first competition!!
I dream of the day of performing. I dont want to compete, but I would love to perform in front a small crowd and do the whole works of dressing up with the big hair and makeup!
I really LOVE all of Amber Ray’s costumes, she is out of Australia. Which Im sure you have heard of her if you are active in the pole community on Facebook!

I can attach the photo from my phone on this post. But go to Amber ray’s facebook (its not private) go to the “costumes I’ve made album”
One in particular that i dream of owning is a black lace two piece, she is in the Iron X pose while wearing this outfit! I thinks its so beautiful!!!
    She is very talented!
Kelly Maglia also makes beautiful costumes, but i think she is on the pricey side

I dont how much time you have, but if you’re feeling crafty, browse around on the sale racks at your local mall and find ideas on youtube how to spruse it up and customize it to make it your own!

I LOVE Long flowy hair that can be wipped around in a performace, if thats your style!
Unfortunately, I have medium length THIN non-flowy hair so If I were ever to perform I would go for extensions and a sexy poofy ponytail like Lou Landers!

Please tell me you are going to record your performance?? Because I love your past videos you’ve posted!
    Good luck

One of my instructors – Veronica Solimano – stitched and changed one of her 'light activewear' outfits to this:

and she won. 🙂 This was her performance

You could do something like this maybe?

I have no comment on performance costumes but I did watch Veronica Solimano's performance and that was so awesome! That is such unique style with strength and gymnastics.  Very impressive and the outfit was cute too!

And on top of it she is a sweetheart – a powerhouse of kick your butt awesomeness, but a sweetheart 🙂 She does some amazing doubles and triples stuff as well.

Veronica Solimano's costume is awesome – but way more time consuming and elaborate than I'm looking for! And Kelly Maglia's stuff is gorgeous but way way out of my price range. And way more elaborate than what would match my piece. I want to spend $50 TOPS on the whole thing. Preferably less 🙂

Azblanco – I also have thin medium length hair that just does not work for flipping around. And I find that if I wear a ponytail, it seems to get in my way when I reach to do bridge variations or for shoulder mounts.  Unfortunately, my hairstyling skills are pretty minimal so it limits me a lot in my choices haha I can do a lot of different braids so I'm thinking I might try for some sort of braid and bun updo variation, wish me luck!

I found a top that I think I might be able to make work. But I think it would still be interesting to hear people's favorite performance costumes for future reference!

I love the costuming part of performing and followed this to make a top for a recital that turned out really cute and got lots of compliments. It ends up being cheap because you can use almost all old stuff that you already have at home.

I used a flowy fabric on the front and stitched it to the bra to give it a draping look and sewed the bras hook and latch closures on the side so I could feel a but more secure in it and also added a halter neck so it wouldn’tslide down.

For my last competition in March, I found a really cheap $8 black bra with rhinestones at a store called Deb, used black booty shorts that I already had, and bought 2 yards of light purple "tu-tu" type material and wrapped it around my body that only cost me $2. Plus I bought some rhinestones for my makeup, so the whole thing was less than $15!! If you want to see pictures of it, I have a few from my competition on my profile. Hopefully this helps!
