  • Injured back and wondering what I can do on pole :/

    Hey girls!

So I fell down the stairs and landed on my back pretty dang good.

Iv been going to the chiro to get help.

So what I am wondering is what can I still do on the pole? I went to some of my pole classes near where I live but when I start doing inverts or cardio my whole back hurts 🙁

Have any ideas what I can do to keep up with pole that doesn't use my back alot?

    Thanks!

You aren't going to like what I am going to say – but when it comes to either your back or your neck, you have to be really really careful. Has your chiropractor given you exercises to do? Especially a newly injured back, I personally wouldn't risk doing anything outside of some basic maybe arm or leg work – and even then it would depend on where you ar injured, how inflamed it is, etc. The whole point of pole is that to do it properly you need to engage all of your muscles – back especially. I am sorry hun, I would give it a nice healthy break for now.

I hope you get better soon

I completely agree with Koidragon. I injured my back a month ago, and was still determined to pole even a little. Even shoulder engagement for basic spins and especially climbs and inverts were so darn painful.

I finally managed to convince myself to take a few days/weeks off with zero kind of exertion, and within a week or so the pain was reduced to a much much much more manageable degree. Of course your healing time will be longer or shorter depending on your own injury. But yeah. Dont bother with poling. Your time is better spent resting. 🙂

But I don't think there is any because any form of Pole dance going to put strain on your backbone..I think you should take rest until it heels completely. Otherwise it can ruin the condition and may lead to severe problem.

you should ask your chiro for some gentle exercises you can do to strengthen your back up (if it is at that point in recovery yet)…in my experience with physios i've always had them give me exercises to do at home in between our sessions.

i would also ask your chiro for advice on pole… i hurt my shoulder a while ago (i have a long-standing injury issue with my rotator cuff) at pole and my physio was pretty good at letting me know what types of things i should avoid, and what types of lifts i should be able to do. the most important thing is to listen…to the chiro because they're the professional, and to your body because pain usually means something bad is going on and don't keep doing it 🙂
