I’ve been poling for 3 years without any problems, but in the past few weeks I’ve come out in a rash everytime I’ve been on the pole. Seems like an allergic reaction, possibly to the metal, but it seems odd that its only just occurring now. Has anyone else ever experienced this or knows anything about allergies? Any treatment tips? I really don’t want to have to give up pole!

What kind of pole is it?  What are you using to clean it? Have you changed soaps? Have you changed grip aids?  Our bodies are constantly changing so there is a possibility that you are having a reaction.  Try benadryl gel prior/after poling or taking allergy meds and see if that helps.  It may just be contact dermatitis.

I do have nickel allergy..Is that pole made up of nickel metal. Use some antibacterial and anti fungal powder or ointment over affect area. To be on the safer side, I think you should look for physician help before the condition get worse.

I've have four piercings in my ear, and a belly one, and from what I've hear is that the more you expose your skin to nickel the more likely your skin will develop an allergy. In my case, I think it was from wearing a lot of poor quality metal jewelry pieces. A Year ago, for the first time I had a ring that was made with nickel, and to this day I still have a rash on my finger, and it will not go away ! I've never had a problem before, but all of a sudden now I do, and it happens everywhere, I can't even touch my arms to the sink for fifteen minutes when I wash dishes. I hear that stainless steel poles are better for sensitive skin, but it's harder to grip. I was skeptical about getting a chrome pole, because I don't want to have break outs, but it hasn't bothered me at all (yet) ! (: Another option is buying mighty grip gloves for your hands, also thigh protectors. They may offer some protection for when your skin comes in contact with the pole. (:
