Believe me you have to be flexible Flexible FLEXIBLE to get that back leg straight in a needlescale/scorpion/eagle
(loved one has many names :)). I also have that goal and I know it will still take me long even if I'm quite bendy now.

What you will have to do to be able to straighten out is to move your hands down from the foot to the ankle and finally onto the leg.
    See this picture: http://25.media.tumblr.com/cdbcf0928e459b20120fe52bcb631549/tumblr_miph62VOaz1s6boxco1_400.png
If you don't move your hands down it won't happen. It's easier said than done though! It takes more flexibility to hold the ankle/leg than to hold the foot. (But you have the chance to get your leg a bit straighter by straightening out your arms.)

This position requires flexibility especially in the back but also a lot in the shoulders and hip flexor.

I'm not sure I see any problem with your hips. Or maybe I just didn't really understand what you mean by that.

Perhaps I should add that whether your goal is to get the leg completely straight or just straighter, the way to work is the same:  The lower you can hold with your hands, the straighter you have the possibility to become :).

Thank you so much 🙂 I will try to play around with hand placement next time I practice and see what happens

    You're welcome :).

Yes, you'll have to try to walk your hands down. And if that doesn't work out, you can try extending your arms instead, and the leg should lift a bit.

Personally, I like when something is straight, the leg or the arms. And as I know the leg still doesn't happen for me, I go for the arms.

    Good luck!
