I have just started pole dancing about a 3 days ago. It is painful and my arms are so sore. I want to keep trying every time I walk past my pole I want to just jump on it but my arms hurt so bad. The only thing I can do on the pole is the fire man spin.. I feel discouraged somewhat. I feel like I need advice.. Any one there?

U just have to hang in there, ure only 3 days in 🙂 work on the things u can do and you’ll build strength through it and don’t overdo it even though it’s tempting to pole nonstop, listen to your body 🙂 that’s my quick thoughts!

Thank you very much! LiMarie, did you have struggles in the beginning of your pole dancing career? Im very excited to have started this. I just had a baby back in feb. and this pregancy did a number on my body. Its ridiculous. Lol.. As far as your level, what would you consider yourself be?

My first class I couldn’t do a pole hold, a spin or the starting point of a climb. Now a year later I’m doing elbow grip ayisha (although I still can’t spell it!) and have started twisted grip handsprings in a level 6 course with my pole studio 🙂 so don’t be discouraged, just keep at it! Also try and not compare yourself to everyone else, as long as u are getting stronger or you’re just having fun, that’s all that matters! Also watch a lot of videos!

It will hurt at first! I could only go to one lesson a week at first because my arms would be so sore. I remember literally having a hard time writing after a pole class because my arms were so tight and sore! Any time you do a new activity it is going to take a little while for your body to build up the muscle and get used to using them in a new way. Try starting with strength pole moves just once a week (like your spins, holds, climbing) and work your way up. And if you really wanna pole more often, you can always work on dancing and transitions. Hang in there, it will get better!

When you first start pole dancing you shouldn’t pole every day! I highly suggest taking a look at the lessons here. I have a program called the 30 day take off that is included in the lessons. It tells you what to work on each day for 30 days. Also the lessons here are placed in the order in which to perform them. I designed them to progressively build your strength while preventing overuse injury, that is common for new dancers. Here are some links to watch. 🙂

Thank you all for the encouragements. I am going to keep trying and working at it.. I watched the video and since I am not a beginner I can’t hold for two breaths while on the pole so maybe I should not do spins? Or just practice the fireman spin? That’s the only spin I can do. But I can’t grip.. At all Guidance please

When I first started I was the same way – I felt so sore! I only went to the studio once a week and I didn’t have a pole at home. Remember to take care of yourself on your off days! That’s what really helped me. I got some TigerBalm (it will help alleviate soreness and bruises!)and some bath bombs and would just relax and watch a movie the day after I went to class and felt too sore to move. The next day I was still sore but not too bad, so I would do some light stretching! Take it at the pace your body needs to go – it will benefit you in the long run. And congrats on diving into the world of pole! 🙂
