Is going to more than one studio in the area a good thing? Recently the studio I’ve been attending for 3 years shut down, and a couple of the instructors dispersed. One instructor I’ve had went to a new studio but it’s small and uncomfortable since it’s in a gym. Another instructor went to another place that’s better equipped and always liked her style of teaching. I checked out another studio with a new instructor and liked how she was teaching the class. Would it be beneficial to go to two different studios a week? Since the one studio closed down we no longer have recitals to do and they were a big motivator for me and since then I’ve lost some interest but want to keep in it.

I am all about learning from as many people as you can.

I love going to different places, just to see the different styles of studios and teaching. I’ve never been a regular at more than one place–how that would work out probably depends a lot on community politics. Some studios are friendly and happy to share students, others can be a bit of a drama so you might be exposed to some trash talking. (For example, if one studio is losing a lot of students to another studio, they might try to convince you not to go there.) I would try it though–you will end up with a broader perspective than your classmates, and a bigger circle of pole friends. 🙂

I absolutely attend two different studios! I have my main once-a-week studio I’ve been at for almost two years, and when I want an extra challenge or a different training technique for more advanced moves I go across town to the other studio. Both studios are fully aware that I do this, not that it matters… Plus I have the Veena lessons! Plus when I travel out of state I try to hit up an S Factor class. It’s always great to explore different teachers/studios. You’ll ALWAYS learn something new you can use. Just be sure to keep safety as your highest priority. Some teachers will teach advanced moves when you’re not ready, just because you’re not a regular. Listen to your body.

I am also about learning as much as I can….for a few months last year I attended two very different studios – one (Bobbi’s) which is mainly taught in heels and is more “dance focused” and the other one is bare feet, and more fitness-focused.

Some off my students use different instructors in our studio. There is 7 pole instructors so lots of choice for them. I find my self to be strongest in strength moves and combos. Were have another instructor who is so tiny and gracefull. Another who is really good at the sexy side to pole. So I find every instructor brings something different to the place 🙂

It’s a good thing for you if you make it so. Why wouldn’t you try out new studios? You’re opening yourself up to learning new things…tricks, techniques, stretches, warm-ups, etc. How could it possibly be a bad thing??? Well, you could possibly be learning things NOT to do 😉 It’s slim pickins where I’m at but when I go home to L.A. or when I travel to different states, I make it a point to try a new studio. I love not only learning from the different instructors but I love seeing the different styles of pole amongst the students. I sometimes also find myself motivated or pushed out of my comfort zone when I go to new places. For me, it’s quite fund & adventurous, like oooooh new studio!
