    Hey All,

I’ve been doing my fair share of google searching and checking back to the events page on this site every now and then, and I barely ever see any pole events in NYC. Everything is in Texas, Kansas, North Carolina, Hollywood, Kalamazoo…anywhere BUT NYC. How can I live in one of the largest cities in the world with tons of pole studios, and we barely have a scene here where we can showcase our amazing work?

Just in case anyone tries to point out the upcoming event of “Pole Dancing and Comedy” in Bowery…yes I recently discovered that one! To be honest, that club is really kind of grimey-I’ve been to an event there when a studio where I used to take classes held its first recital, and it was a REALLY sleazy atmosphere, especially considering the artistry that some of those girls had in their performances.

I shy away from any pole events that are ever held at the R Bar…not my cup of tea at all. As a side note, I also shy away from most standup comedy routines, because so many comedians are racist/sexist/ableist/fat shaming/you name the prejudice with their jokes and it’s NOT funny. I kind of shuddered when I thought about what it would be like to have comedians AND beautiful, half-naked women poling on stage together in one space. On the flip side, they had a couple of female comedians featured to balance it out but I’m still very cautious so you know..it could just be me.

Either way, all the pole events I know of in NYC are held at the R Bar, and there’s never anything else going on. It’s also been difficult for me to find community here-I’ve been looking to find some dancers to just hang out and pole/stretch with-maybe even if it’s something where we rent out a studio for a couple hours and dance? I requested to join a group like that on facebook and I was never accepted 🙁

Does anyone know something I don’t know? Perhaps I’m out of the loop. But if you have suggestions or feel the same, please feel free to share 🙂

NYC used to have a ton of events but this past year a lot have been sidelined. Besides USPDF and APFA there was Polesque and Aerial Amy was holding an event called Flight Club but she took close to a year step back from pole (she is back). I would follow Amy as she is going to be teaching again at a studio that is more about showcasing than competing.
