Pole Party Ideas
Posted by jessello on December 27, 2013 at 2:08 pmI’m thinking of throwing a pole party in January in my home. Does anyone have any party ideas that would only require one pole? (I prefer not to head out and rent poles for the party.)
Thanks in advance 🙂

Whats the party for and are the people attending first time pole dancers? Are you keeping the party sporty or sexy fun?

I’ll be curious to see the responses you get to this question. I recently held a girls weekend at my house. I told the girls to bring their short shorts and high heels if for no other reason than a sexy photo op to send to their man. Only two gals played on the pole–one was really good and it was her first time! The others watched and there was a lot of laughing but I couldn’t get the rest of them on it (or near it for that matter) for anything! I’m sure it depends on the crowd. At some point I’m going to have my coworkers over and several of them have already gone to the pole studio with me so I suspect I’ll have to peel them off the pole. I think it could be really fun–wish my girlfriends had been a little more adventurous.

Unless these people already pole, typically a pole party will fail. It is the same reason why women will not walk into a studio for the first time; there is still a stigma that they need to mentally get past. I would also make sure that these are people you know and trust as there can be blowback that you did not consider…..either nasty rumors or even if someone gets hurt they could try going after you for “damages”. Not trying to be a buzz kill, just giving you some things to think about.

Sounds like fun! I don’t necessarily think it will fail, it all depends on the people though. I’ve had a bunch of friends all have a go on my pole before, and most of them loved it. Of course there are always a couple who won’t want to, due to shyness or whatever, but that’s okay! They don’t have to come, or they could just watch and take pictures etc. I’ve found that those who don’t want to join in have just as much of a giggle watching everyone else try it out! The way I’ve done it before with one pole is to just demonstrate a move and then let everyone have a go individually. A couple of tips for you – newbies tend to LOVE spinning pole, so that’s always a good option, and teaching doubles spins such as double chair/double front hook can make people feel less self conscious as they’re trying it together. Just check your pole is secure often and it should be fine!

I have done many in-home pole parties and usually the format I use is to teach small sequences of 3-4 beginner moves and let everyone have their turn trying it out. Depending on how large the group is, you can get a lot of pole time or only a few turns, but everyone always has fun. If there is a “guest of honor” like a birthday or bachelorette, sometimes after the lesson I task the group to choreograph a short routine for her using what they learned and she then performs it for the group. If not, if time allows, we’ll do a freetyle at the end where I turn on a song and let everyone go up and show off for a minute or two.
