  • Too Early? Bouncing Room Ideas for PoleCon

I just figured out where PoleCon 2014 is, and it’s actually a possibility I could go this year. I plan things wayyy in advance, so I was already researching hotels, and I know some people roomed together last year. (If this isn’t allowed to be posted someone please let me know, I apologize in advance!)

I am looking to book a room under my name (I have a AAA discount) at the Holiday Inn Express on 221 North Gay Street. It’s a twelve minute walk from PoleCon, or there is a bus (15 minute ride) that goes by every fifteen minutes 5:30am-12:30am.

I was going to get a room with one queen bed ($428), but I thought maybe someone was also looking to make it not cost an arm and a leg and was looking for a roommate. So, I looked up a two queen bed non smoking room, and it was $489.70. Which would be $244.50 each for two people. There is a four person maximum per room, and if you were travelling with someone else and wanted to share a bed with them, it makes no difference to me, it’d simply cut the expense different. 🙂

Things about this hotel – breakfast is included (that knocks off a little expense), there is free internet as well. Check in is at 3pm, check out at 11am.

I was going to check into the hotel during the AM of July 4th, drop off my stuff, and head over to pole con. I am going to be getting a 3 day pass. Then I’d be staying at the hotel until the AM of 7th. Reason being: check out is at 11am. It wouldn’t be possible to go to the last full day of pole con if I checked out on the 6th, since there would be no place to put luggage.

If anyone is interested, please let me know! Send me a message and we can exchange emails or something. Happy Poling! Also, if anyone has an easier way of doing this, please feel free to let me know even if you aren’t interested in rooming! I am always open to new ideas.:)

Really, Independence Day Weekend?? They couldn’t have picked a more expensive time of year in/near our nation’s capital…sheesh!

AZBLANCO just recently posted about trying to attend this and mentioned she was getting married this April, so perhaps she’s looking to cut her costs a bit. Hope this helps and I hope you’re able to attend! Happy PoleCon-ing! 🙂

Alright, so I can’t edit my above post – unfortunate. I originally wasn’t going to be gettinga room at the Marriott because when I called they said I wasn’t able to get a room because I was under 21. However Expedia said I could, and I called again to ask and I actually can. So, change in plans.

    Check-in date: Thursday July 3rd
    Check-in time: TBD
    Check-out date: Sunday July 6th
    Room Type: Two Queen Beds
    Price: $620.24/$310.12 each

Other: I will not be booking until after tax returns. Also, since it seems relevant: I will be getting a 3-day pass. I will be travelling alone and I am not meeting anyone there, so if anyone is in the same situation and looking for someone to walk around with, that’d be awesome. Feel free to shoot me a message if you’re interested!

And jesikah6 – that’s exactly what I though, about the Fourth of July. It jacks up the prices of everything!

Are you staying at the marriott or at the harbor place where the convention is? You know the harbor place is doing $179 a nite right?

Well I would be interested I would love to go and like you not going with anyone and will know no one there so it would be cool to have at least one person to sit with at the end of the day and go over all the stuff that went on lol. Is the hotel you pocked cheaper then the hotel where the event is? Doesn’t matter with me which hotel as long as close in debating on driving or just just flying in.

Haha, yes, the Harborplace – Sorry, the website is for the Marriott.

And tigerlillies – The hotel IS the one that the event is being held in – to be honest, I’ve read a few reviews about the neighborhoods surrounding other hotels in the area and most solo female travelers said that didn’t feel “safe” outside of their hotel. I kinda figured the extra money was worth my peace of mind, you know? Plus you can always go back to your room for a nap or a refresher if you’re in the hotel that the event is in. And I know what you mean about having someone to sit with! You can send me a message if you’d like anymore info or such or you want to talk over plans?
