Skinny Ceiling joists?
This is what I found in my attic ceiling. Could this be what is in my bedroom ceiling as well? These are not wide….no wonder I missed it with my first pole. Sure hope these are wide enuf for an xpole. Ugh…

On re-reading your post we should advise as follows.
The width of the beam providing it is rigid is not a problem. The reason a joint is needed is so that when the pole expands there is something for it to press against.
The reason the X-Pole dome is so wide is to reduce the problem of centering the upper dome on the joist. Obviously it is best if you are dead center but an 1″ or 2″ either way will not hurt.
That is also one of the reason an X-Pole has 3 bearings in the dome (not 1 as many poles have). This is to ensue there is a good angular lock (the dome stays at 90 degree’s to the pole) between the dome and the pole so the dome is not influenced by its position on the joist.

The edge of your joist is only as wide as the 2×6 that it is made of, so basically only about 1.75 inches wide. The drywall is screwed directly into that 2x and each joist is about 24 inches apart.

Yes correct. The centre of the dome goes over a joist.
