I haven’t weighed myself since a couple of months before the holidays, and knew I gained. I can’t believe I was dumb enough to get on the damn scale. After all my hard work, and changing my thinking to believe that my weight doesn’t define me.
I’m so incredibly discouraged! I weigh 224 pounds. I can’t get over it. The number is flashing in my head since yesterday. I gained almost 10 pounds over the holidays. I eat very healthfully, and cook all of our meals. We rarely eat convenience foods except the -occasional- ordered pizza.
This journey is because I love pole, not because I have the shallow goal of being “skinny.” I guess I just thought/hoped that I would be burning off fat like a beast. STUPID SCALE!!!JoleneBell replied 10 years, 9 months ago 9 Members · 12 Replies -

224! Surely the world stopped when you stepped back off the scale! Oh wait…it didn’t. NOTHING changed except for your thinking. You CAN get over it and you will. Go back and dance around your pole like you did before your saw the number – yes I saw your videos :). Continue to eat healthy. Life is more than a number!

That sucks you’re feeling down! Keep in mind that our body weight can fluctuate between 3-8 pounds depending on salt intake, water intake, time of day and many other things. Also, I’m sure you have gained muscle!!! Screw the scale, it’s better to go by how your clothing fits or use measurements. There are skinny people that are not heathy and larger people that are in great health! I think America should get over size and focus on quality of life and health.

We’ve all had these days! And we still do…and they suck. Emotions can drive us, sparked by something as simple as stepping on the scale. The dark cloud arrives suddenly. Just ride out the “storm!” Crank the music loud, close your eyes, dance, and hug the pole. This too shall pass. Numbers don’t mean anything! Remember, you are strong because you are a poler! Do not forget it! Also, best advice I ever heard from a dear friend was, “it may matter today, but it won’t matter tomorrow.” Additionally, here is a video I came across yesterday. Wow. Thank you so much you guys. You’re all so awesome. Yep, after I posted that I forced myself to go pole. And I feel so much better for it. It was, of course, the perfect remedy. I am posting a pic of the climb I accomplished! Thank you all, again. Your encouragement helped more than you know.

I hear ya girl! I was so disappointed that I have not lost ANY weight after a year of working out almost everyday. Six months of that has been poling . Wtf?! Just don’t let that stop you. I know I have to really try to forget it or it will discourage me and I will resort to old bad habits. Just really focus on the progress you are making on the pole and not your scale. Throw that scale away if it does more damage than good. You seem to be working out very hard and you should be proud of that. I think eventually our bodies will catch up to our mind

Thanks, Robin! It’s good to know I’m not alone! Yes, I’m having my husband hide the darn thing. Yes, I have been working out very hard for sure! Why is it that something as piddly as a number on a scale can crush that for me? I need to not allow that. Maybe I’ll weigh myself in another three months out of curiosity.

I know how you feel. I’ve resisted stepping on my scale for over a year now because I’m border-line terrified that the number will be a lot higher than I’m comfortable with. Not because of unhealthy eating, lack of exercise, etc but because I know I have some clothes (shirts mostly) that not longer fit as my arm muscles have gotten a lot bigger due to all the poling and exercise I’ve been doing.
If you do decide to hop on it again down the road, just remember that the numbers are only a small part of your goal. Definitely keep an eye on how your clothes are fitting. Even more important, your energy level should be much higher too! Lastly, in your videos, you appear to be having a good time so unless you are a great actress, I’d say remember that feeling that you get when you pole before you get too discouraged!

Verticali is right. you are probably the happiest person I’ve seen post videos on here. you really seem to be filled with joy when you dance and I feel that joy too when I see it. that really is a special gift, that kind of joy. you have an ability to emote something and make your audience feel happy. some people work hard to do that and never achieve it. that joy is your signature. really hang on to that feeling

I hate scales. Right now I weigh the same as I did when I wore four sizes bigger clothing. FOUR. If I looked at scales I’d feel horrible. Instead I do as Veena mentioned–how do my clothes fit? More importantly, how do I FEEL?
The scale is just a number, darlin’ — don’t let it be the boss of you and your fun pole dancing self!!!

I just want to agree with everything that has been said, and to add that after almost 5 years of poling I have only lost 10-15lbs! …BUT… I have dropped 4 pant sizes, shrunk in the waist and hips, and gained tons of muscle mass all over my body. Focus on the positives, scales suck as they do not tell the whole story. You are doing great, so don’t give up. 🙂

Just to chuck in my thoughts for what they’re worth. As been said the numbers don’t tell the whole story, how your clothes fit can be a good indicator or photos a few months apart if trying to track fat loss. But at the end of the day how you feel in your body and what it can do for you is so much more important. For years the numbers on the scale completely ruled my life and the acceptable number got smaller and smaller. I’m certain if I stepped on the scales now I would be absolutely horrified as it would be most definitely over my previous ‘acceptable’ number. However I used to be weak, unhealthy and unfit and now I can do an aerial v invert, shouldermount and many other things. You rock that pole! The numbers can only have the importance and power we give them and that power is ours goddamnit! We’ve worked for it!
