Hey everyone, I am brand spanking new to pole dance and I am in love after 1 lesson at a local fitness studio. I truly have a passion for dance, and have already decided I will buy a pole for my home because I am hooked!

I need help deciding what to get for my home dance pole and where to get it. I currently rent my home so I’d want a dance pole that is portable/ doesn’t require a permanent fixture, static and spinning capable, and I’d like it to be of good quality and affordable (surprise). My problem is that I live in Alaska and the shipping rates are absurd. I got a few estimates above the $400 range, and it seems pretty steep for my current financial situation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I’ve been talking to Veena about her pole. I rent also and her pole only takes one screw and it doubles as a plant hanger!! She didn’t say anything else about shipping costs being higher, so maybe you can look into her pole. I was in the same position. It blows my mind how shipping is so expensive to here as if we are a foreign country or something… We are still a part of the continent, believe it or not!! And, since you live here, I am sure you have run into those crazy tourists who think Alaska is an island. Oh, the good old summer, tourist days 🙂

Do you have anyone in the continental US that it could be shipped to and in return you pay them and they ship it to you. It used to be less expensive for my former nanny to have things shipped to her parents in California and have them ship it to her in Alaska using another method. It seems like a lot of hastle, but to save a few hundred could be worth it.

If you can find the pole you want on Amazon, each seller sometimes adjusts their own shipping fees. Have a friend who spends part of the year in Hawaii and something they needed last year had three sellers. Two had shipping cost well over $100 but one charged less than $20 for the same item. It would have been free shipping to the lower 48 from all three but it came out less in the end than if I shipped it to them.

I have the studio Veena pole and am in Hawaii. Shipping was $45. And normally I get charged an arm and a leg as well. And I rent as well. But its just one screw and can be easily patched up when you move out.

Thanks for all the tips, ladies!!

Goddess KK: Alaska is really a special place to live. One of my coworkers was making a purchase over the phone years ago and the customer service agent had to confirm whether or not she was going to pay with US Dollars! (No, BUTTONS, really?! Haha) Are you planning on getting a dance pole? I’m deciding between the Lil Mynx Rotator or an X-Pole X-pert in a 45mm width.

Johnssdeere: My dad lives in Cali, and he is always as helpful as can be… But I can’t get over how awkward the conversation will go. I fear I may get stuck defending the fitness aspect of my order and reassuring him that I’m not changing careers. (I come from a very conservative/old school Asian family.) I do have a friend who’s traveling to Seattle next month though and she offered to hand-deliver my pole back home. It’s too big for a carry-on, but would you think I can trust the airlines to handle this package with care if she checked it in?

WebJunk: People have cautioned us on knock-off poles from sites like Amazon and Ebay. My only purchases with these sights have been text books, cell phone cases and wedding novelties. How do I know what I order is the real deal?

Sassylina: Your $45 shipping charge gives me hope! Our states are always listed in the fine-print exclusions right? How long did it take for you to receive your pole after you placed your order? Does it arrive in one piece? Can you disassemble it when you move?

It came in one piece. It took a week maybe a day shorter. It came faster then expected.
Yes I love fine print. We ship everywhere in the US besides Alaska and hawaii. 😉

What I have done a couple of times is contacting the manufacturer and asking if an Amazon dealer was authorized to sell their products. Just did that last month for something.
I thought Lil’ Mynx themselves I had seen as an Amazon seller.

NOTE TO MANUFACTURERS! (I have seen your posts on here) Why not offer this person a discount Total Price being the shipping is so much to Alaska? You get a customer and some goodwill I am sure would be posted on here.
