Is this a new feature? Whenever someone comments on a video or changes the thumbnail, it goes back up to the top of the news feed. So old posts are coming up at the top and I have to scroll down quite far sometimes to see the new stuff.

Kate92 for the last few years our discussions have behaved exactly this way. Discussions with new posts would be automatically bumped to the top of the page to keep the discussions going.

We have had a lot of feed back that people didn’t like posting videos here because they tended to roll off the bottom of the page too quickly. A little research showed this was true even popular videos were getting only a few likes or comments as they would quickly be overwhelmed by our very active discussions.

We really want people to feel like they can get the feedback they need whether they post a video, photo or discussion. We decided the best way to do this was to allow all types of media to behave the same as our discussions.

It seems to be working well as discussions have remained active and the number of video views has more than doubled in just the 48 hours we’ve had this implemented, I’d definitely be interested in anyones feedback however.

Remember you can see things such as videos in chronological order by simply clicking the nav links at the top of the page.

Thanks for the response! It’s interesting to know your reasons for doing it, and I think it’s awesome that it’s increased video views so much already. My only concern was that people could easily keep editing their old videos to make them come up to the top of the page again and again, thus pushing the ones that don’t do this further down resulting in them being less visible. But you make a good point that they can always be viewed chronologically from the videos tab. I guess the reason I noticed it and asked about it is because I kept seeing the same video at the top of my news feed about four or five times even though it was posted more than a day ago, which isn’t necessarily a problem but it did mean that newer videos with no or less comments weren’t getting much attention. Not trying to criticise at all, just letting you know my thoughts 🙂

I noticed that too–the time stamp on the video changes, as to when the last comment was left.

I was wondering how long it would take everyone to notice! So far I’m really liking it I feel I see more and if I want to only look at discussions I just go to the discussion page. I use to miss a lot of the videos because they were pushed down so fast by everything.

If it becomes too annoying it can always be changed back, so far I’m enjoying it tho!

Kate, I don’t think we have the kind of members who would keep commenting to keep their video at the top, everyone is pretty respectful here.

Rather than changing it back, maybe you guys could make a way to sort things like newly added first, newly updated, etc??? Just a thought.

I’ll think about different options. Until I would decide on a methodology to handle this keep in mind that posts can be viewed in chronological order in their respective sections and new videos will come through daily on the update.

Try to think of the main page as a running feed of everything. If you want to look through only Discussions click on that link. If you want to see the newest videos then click on the Video link, it’s still in chronological order.
