Hi there, just wondered if anyone has any experience or advise with this. I think I have hurt my shoulder from working on elbow grip Ayesha and entry into brass money. My bottom arm shoulder is now painfull when I hold the arm out straight or rotate it. I am resting it and laying off any inverts with split or elbow grip. My friend who is a physio has watched my vid says I need to engage my core more when doing the move to reduce stress on the shoulder. Is there a trick I am missing when doing Ayesha to reduce the load on the bottom arm or is my core just not strong enough?

I can’t answer about your technique since I haven’t seen it, but my experience is that injuries are often due to pure overdoing of the same/same kind of tricks. Could it be that? Respect the shoulder injury and rest it (like you’re already doing), it can become very lengthy otherwise. Practise things where you don’t feel this pain in the mean time (and possibly do exercises that can help you heal).

Thanks Lina, I think you are right with the overuse, as I can only do it one side. I do have a video entitled ‘brass monkey’ on here. I agree with my friend re my lack of abs engagement as I tend to over flex my lower back and forget my abs. I guess the three kids hasn’t helped in that dept.

Same here, I feel your pain! I have caused muscle strain and the physio told me it was cause from the shoulder over compensating for a weakness somewhere else in the body and to do all over body conditioning exercises like planking, squats etc. My core isn’t massively strong and I rely on my upper body strength. Could this be the same for you?
